An ambulance struck a girl on Coney Island Avenue and Avenue X, leaving her seriously injured.

The accident happened just after noon. The girl was taken to Lutheran Medical Center where she’s in stable condition.

It’s unclear if the ambulance was operated by FDNY EMS or a private organization. The FDNY confirmed that the victim was female but would not give an age. Witnesses remarked on social media that it was a young girl.

Police closed the street off for more than an hour, and the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the circumstances of the accident.

This post will be updated as we receive more information.

UPDATE (2:26 p.m.): Video from the scene appears to show a private ambulance. The organization’s name cannot be seen in the video.

buick

Police are on the hunt for the driver of the Buick photographed above, with license plate GFR-1370, following a hit-and-run this morning that left a pedestrian in critical condition.

The car struck the 60-year-old man in the crosswalk of Ocean Parkway and Avenue O at approximately 11:30 a.m., Yeshiva World News reports.

The vehicle fled the scene without even slowing down, and began travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on Ocean Parkway.

Three good samaritans who were in the the area witnessed the vehicle with a smashed windshield – travelling fast, and going through red lights. Additionally, the windshield was completely smashed. The image below was taken by this individual, and given to YWN exclusively.

The vehicle entered the Belt Parkway on Ocean Parkway, and headed East towards Queens…

The victim was taken to Lutheran Medical Center where he is in critical condition.

The photo above was tweeted out by NYCAlerts, and we have not yet confirmed whether or not it is being distributed by police.

A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car on Coney Island Avenue and Avenue X early Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 5:15 a.m. According to a passenger of the Toyota Tundra truck that hit the man, the victim ran into the street.

“We were going home. He was running across the street. It happened in a split second … he came out of nowhere running fast,” the passenger told the Daily News. “We were all in shock.”

Intersections along Coney Island Avenue are among the highest incident rates for pedestrian strikes within the 61st Precinct, with the worst intersection being two blocks away at Avenue Z. The NYPD announced earlier this month that they would increase enforcement as part of the citywide Vision Zero initiative.

A driver jumped the curb while attempting to park on East 19th Street between Avenue U and Avenue T, hitting an elderly woman and pinning her beneath the car.

A tipster tells Sheepshead Bites that the accident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. in front of 2060 East 19th Street. The driver was pulling into a parking spot when she lost control of her vehicle. According to the tipster, she jumped the curb and hit an elderly woman who was walking with her husband. After hitting her, the panicked driver attempted to reverse the vehicle, but instead drove forward and pinned the victim under the tire.

“It was crazy. Her whole face was smashed. There is blood on the sidewalk. Her husband was yelling for help,” the tipster told Sheepshead Bites.

A tweet from Transportation Alternatives’ VisionZeroNYC account reports that the woman did not survive the incident:

Sheepshead Bites has not yet confirmed a fatality.

Police are investigating the cause of a Saturday evening accident, in which a car veered onto an Ocean Avenue sidewalk and struck three people.

The accident happened at approximately 4:30 between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Ocean Avenue and Voorhies Avenue, and left three people injured.

One of the victims is in critical condition.

Police closed down Ocean Avenue from Avenue Z to Shore Parkway for approximately an hour, readers told Sheepshead Bites.

Authorities were still investigating what caused the driver to go off the road as of Sunday afternoon.

UPDATE (11:05 a.m.): NYPD sources have confirmed that the victims were three females, aged 27, 15 and 14. They were all taken to Lutheran Medical Center, with the two younger victims in stable condition. The 27-year-old is in critical condition.

Police also revealed that the car, a 2000 black Nissan, was traveling north on Ocean Avenue when the 66-year-old driver blew through a red light, mounted the curb and struck the victims.

There is no indication that the driver was under the influence of any kind of drug or alcohol, the police source noted, though he was issued a summons for failure to stop at a red light. It is currently being investigated as an accident, though additional charges may be leveled at the driver as the investigation unfolds.

Correction: (3/29/2013 at 10:41 a.m.): The 15-year-old victim, still in the hospital, left a comment below correcting the time stated above. It was between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m., she said, and not 4:30 p.m. as we previously reported.

Tipster Inna P. let us know about an accident that happened at approximately 5:40 p.m. yesterday, when a pedestrian was struck on Ocean Parkway, in front of Coney Island Hospital.

It appears the pedestrian was crossing the service road in front of the hospital when he was struck by a car. In a video Inna sent, the victim, though sprawled out on the pavement, is conscious and alert. He was rubbing his head as he stayed lying down on the street.

It’s not clear if the vehicle in the photo is the vehicle that struck him, or if the driver stayed on the scene after the accident.
