UPDATE [5/24 @ 6 p.m.]: Although we still haven’t received a response from NYPD, a source did tell us an autopsy was scheduled for today. Additionally, there was no identification on the body. All of the information that we’ve posted has also been confirmed.

A dead body was spotted in Sheepshead Bay around 8 p.m. today, on the Manhattan Beach side near Exeter Street.

Helicopters, NYPD Harbor Unit, police cars and FDNY trucks and ambulances flooded the area. Flashing lights are seen along at least three blocks of Shore Boulevard. Vehicles have also been seen stationary on Emmons Avenue.

The condition of the body – and the person’s identity – is still unknown. We’ll update as more information becomes available.

No other news outlets that I can tell are covering this. I was hoping NY1 would at least have some more info.

I live right there, and i cant find any info. thats messed up

it's very strange that no one covered this. there were so many people and emergency vehicles. channel 12 said they would look into it.

  • elv

I was searching a lot of news websites for information but nothing covered this, strange.

a couple of years ago i came upon (not first) a dead body on coney island beach, there were police, ambulances, helicopters, you name it. Not even a syllable in the news or the papers. Go figure.

Just remember: who's the first and best source in news for Sheepshead Bay 😉

I've put in a call with the 61st Pct. They don't answer calls on weekends. I hope to have some more information for everyone tomorrow or Tuesday.

  • Local Broker

What do you mean they dont answer on weekends? So if you call the precinct on a weekend you get voice-mail?

  • http://www.nedberke.com Ned Berke

Community affairs unit, which is what I deal with for these things. If I call the general line (and yes, they do have machines sometimes), the people that answer are not authorized to speak to press. Or so I keep hearing.

  • Local Broker

Interesting. You would think that there would be someone by the phone 24-7 at a police precinct.

  • a good neighbor

last time i called 61 pct, i had to navigate through a menu to reach someone from crime prevention.

  • peter

why is there no coverage on the body found . i saw a lot of police lights and police boats planes cars what up with this.

  • peter

whats going with the body foud in the bay. police boats/ cars/ no coverage?

  • BrooklynBus

Maybe the Bay News will have something this week

  • BrooklynBus

By the way Ned, did the precinct ever respond to your inquire regarding that abandoned suitcase?

  • Kismet

I told someone about this over the weekend. Years ago, they said that there were more than a few bodies found in the bay. It wasn't made public then either.

    Thanks!

Yes. That was a while ago. I told you their response and you even replied to me about it. They basically said they searched the case and found it was empty. They couldn't say why they didn't remove it. When you responded, you said it would've been nice if they told the neighbors who were worried. This is all from memory…

Correct. I remember that conversation now, but as I recall you told me that they said it either was empty or had some clothes in it, implying they hadn't searched it. I guess I was waiting for some further official update since you stated in the article “We contacted the 61st Precinct to get their side of the story. We’ll update when they get back to us.”

This is absurd but i believe the mob is still alive and kicking because any other day any other news the cameracrew will jump on it. I go to KCC College and i heard it from a friend who is a Aux Officer and told me all about it, But it is really weird that they are keeping Mum. I mean really weights on body 6'2 and 240 most likely he was a muscle man and got shown his own medicine… hmmmm???? interesting indeed. But sadly we will never know and yet we live in a big area.

As I've been saying for a long time, the only news the media reports on is the news that it wants us to hear, Sheepsheadbites excluded.
