Founded in May 2008, Sheepshead Bites is a local news outlet chronicling the daily experiences of living in Brooklyn’s best neighborhood, Sheepshead Bay. Part community bulletin board, part newspaper – Sheepshead Bites brings you stories about breaking news, meeting coverage, events, businesses and history. We report on your block and every block around you. We tell you about transportation and development issues, as well as the best restaurants to visit, unique stores and upcoming events.

In short, we rock your hyperlocal news world.

Who we are

Ned Berke (Editor & Publisher) is a lifelong Sheepshead Bay resident. A Rutgers University alum, he has worked in community press, trade publications and international/travel reporting before launching Sheepshead Bites in 2008 and Bensonhurst Bean in 2011. His work at Sheepshead Bites has won accolades from New York City news outlets, including being named Best Local Blog in 2010 (The L Magazine) and Best Local Affairs Website in 2011 (CBS), and Ned has been named one of the 40 Under 40 Rising Stars (2012) in New York City by City & State, a leading outlet for politics and media.

Sheepshead Bites was named “Best Local Blogger” in L Magazine’s 2010 “Best of Brooklyn and Manhattan” roundup. They praised us for our “endlessly fascinating” reportage of the under-served Sheepshead Bay neighborhood. In 2011, Sheepshead Bites was named by the editors of CBS News as Most Valuable Blog for Local Affairs. In 2012, our publisher, Ned Berke, was included in the prestigious City & State “40 Under 40 Rising Stars” list of noteworthy media and political figures to watch.
