A man is in serious condition after being struck by a snow plow in Brighton Beach.

The incident happened around noon. The man, believed to be in his 60s according to the Daily News, was walking on Oceana Drive West near Brighton Beach Avenue outside of the Oceana Condominium complex when the plow hit him.

Scanner reports indicated the man was pinned under the plow. He has been taken to Coney Island Hospital in serious condition. The NYPD’s Highway units are on the scene investigating the circumstances.

We are awaiting more information from authorities.

UPDATE (1:58 p.m.): Facebook reader Sabina S. tells us that the man has died. We are still awaiting confirmation from official sources

UPDATE (2:04 p.m.): Councilman Chaim Deutsch has followed up, informing Sheepshead Bites that the man did pass away. The councilman is expected to issue a statement shortly, but confirmed that it was a privately operated caterpillar contracted by the Oceana complex for snow removal operations that struck the man.

Our thoughts here at Sheepshead Bites are with the victim’s family

Correction: A previous version of this post indicated that it was confirmed to be a Department of Sanitation vehicle that struck the man. That information, which was live on this site for less than 5 minutes, has been amended.

A pedestrian was hospitalized after being hit by a car a few minutes before 2:00 p.m. on East 14th Street, just off of Sheepshead Bay Road.

The driver of a silver Hyundai told Sheepshead Bites that a pedestrian ran into the street, attempting to avoid a car pulling out from the curb, when he hit him. The accident sent the pedestrian off to the hospital in an ambulance, and the car’s windshield on the passenger side was broken. The driver said he swerved to clear the pedestrian, who was looking in the opposite direction, but wasn’t fast enough.

Paramedics at the scene said that the pedestrian was in stable condition and they expect a full recovery [UPDATE: Readers who say they know the pedestrian are reporting that his injuries are more serious than initially reported. A co-worker says he has bleeding to the brain, and a broken shoulder and neck.].

The driver stayed at the scene of the accident, and no charges are being filed against him.

The woman struck on Nostrand Avenue and Avenue Z on Thursday is in critical condition. The driver – an ex-con with convictions for drugs and driving without a license – is awaiting arraignment for charges of vehicular assault, drunken driving, and reckless driving.

From the Daily News:

A drunken ex-con three times over the legal limit mowed down a Brooklyn woman walking home from work – leaving her with horrendous injuries, sources said Friday.

Olga Skibina, 22, was headed to her Gerritsen Beach home when a wasted Zachary Kitt barreled his 1997 Ford van into her Thursday evening, police said.

She was in critical condition at Lutheran Medical Center Friday with severe brain, facial and lung injuries.

“We’re hoping it’s not going to get any worse,” said the victim’s stepfather, Alex Litvachkis, 44.
