Photo: View from The Breakers

A few weeks ago, before this blog existed even as a thought in my head, I had the opportunity to explore the new development in Sheepshead, The Breakers. The condos are causing a bit of ruckus with local groups including the Sheepshead Bay/Plumb Beach Civic Association, as well as with CB 15 chairperson Theresa Scavo, who are angered with the buildings' gate, which stops pedestrian traffic. This is a photo off of the development's "pier", which is a very generous name. Still, the condos have a beautiful view of the mouth of the bay; hopefully it'll be one we can all enjoy.

See my problem with the breakers is the eyesore architecture - not the waterfront. That plot of land has never been public use anyway. Back when people could use it (before it was an empty lot) - when it was part of the palm shores club - it was still membership only.

In fact, most of the waterfront down that way isnt for public use. That space is filled with apartments and yacht clubs, etc.. and is not accesable unless you are willing to climb over fences or join a club.

Theres a huge section of sheepshead bay that is accessible down by the boats and on the other side by kingsboro. Thats just fine for me. Even if there weren't a gate by the breakers I still wouldn't feel right hanging out over there -- but thats just my opinion.
