Whoa, what a week.

First off, Sheepshead Bites is putting together a photo gallery from Saturday’s Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. If you have photos you want published, send them to nberke [at] sheepsheadbites [dot] com.

Second, primaries for federal legislative elections are tomorrow – that means Republicans head to the polls to choose their candidate to challenge Kirsten Gillibrand for New York’s junior Senate seat. Currently, Congressman Bob Turner and Manhattan lawyer Wendy Long lead the pack. The congressional primaries are a madhouse, as redistricting has confused many residents, now uncertain of what district they live in and who is running. That’s why we made this guide to the congressional primaries to help you sort it all out.

Lastly – PARTY!

That’s right, we’re reminding you yet again (and we’ll do it again, and again, and again) that THIS FRIDAY, June 29, is Sheepshead Bites’ fourth birthday celebration. Live bands, cheap drinks, free food and a beautiful pier overlooking the water. Come and enjoy.

When: Friday, June 29, at 8:00 p.m. (rain or shine!)
Where: Pier behind the Baron DeKalb – Knights of Columbus, 3000 Emmons Avenue (at Nostrand Avenue)
Price: Free! Though we’re asking for a suggested donation of $10 to help cover costs and replenish our freelancer’s fund, ensuring more great original reporting about the neighborhoods we cover!

The event is sponsored by Big Apple Sewer and Drain, entertainment sponsored by TD Bank and food provided by Bassett Caterers.

A good portion of the people who attended last year are probably dead by now.

Oh no, they’re the survivors. They’ll outlive us, probably.

What would happen if everybody decided not to vote in the primaries.

    • Kool4Coney

there would always be a few people who DID vote in the primary and THEY would have the advantage of selecting the candidate who everyone else will eventually have to vote for (or against)  and that is why I ALWAYS vote in primaries…  it is the most direct way to have your voice heard because so few voices come out to be counted.

My bonus this year was pretty small. I wont be able to make the full suggested donation. Maybe $5 like last year though.

Has anyone noticed the surge in pvt. tow truck working for the cite and with the Marshals? I saw 3 cars on the hook in as many days. 2 people were dishing out $$.
The one where I saw the Marshal’s  they towed the car off . It took maybe 3 0r 4 minutes for the pvt. tow hook it, Marshals slapped a sticker on the window and off they went.

Yes at times they park on the side of the store on East 17th Street what gives with that?

They are waiting their turn to go for a tow once the marshals or the spotter cars find them. The marshals used to hit our area once a week Tuesdays then changed to Wednesdays. Now it’s every day. There are an abundance of people not paying their tickets. Once they hit a certain amount it’s tow away time. It used to be a lot more than it is now. Not many cars make it to the scofflaw list which is usually in the $$$$thousands.
