If it’s true, it’s got to be the dirtiest trick we’ve seen yet in the race between Democrat Lew Fidler and Republican David Storobin in the race to replace former State Senator Carl Kruger.

According to a tweet by Councilmember David Greenfield, a van struck a volunteer carrying pro-Lew Fidler leaflets in front of Cunningham Junior High School (1875 East 17th Street). The driver then got out of the car, grabbed the Filder literature and drove off, the tweet alleges.

Politicker has confirmed the information with a Democratic source, though the NYPD has yet to provide an official account.

In addition to the above, City & State is reporting all sorts of craziness:

We also heard from a source close to Fidler that a similar incident occurred at Public School 206 in Brooklyn, but have yet to confirm that. A call to the police press office has yet to be returned.

David Simpson, a spokesman for Storobin, said the whole thing sounded a bit far-fetched.

“If somebody actually mowed down a volunteer, and took their campaign literature, that would be one of the more outrageous campaign tactics ever,” Simpson said. “Nobody from our campaign is driving around hitting people. Until there’s a police report or a verified confirmation, this sounds highly questionable.”

Meanwhile, Fidler’s campaign just told us that Storobin himself was ejected from a polling site at the Shorefront Jewish Community Center by police, for aggressively electioneering to Russian voters there. But Simpson,  who says he was actually at the polling site, says that’s entirely untrue, and that Storobin’s visit to the polling site was uneventful.

Simpson also says that at least one Russian-speaking voter has reported getting a live a phone call saying their Section 8 voucher will be repealed if Storobin wins election today.

Keep an eye on City & State’s article, as it looks like they’ll be posting constant updates at the allegations that keep flying back and forth.

Ah, politics…. A man called up my mom, who is in her 80′s, and in her own words: “Bruce, the guy was shouting at me. He demanded that ‘I swear to COMMIT to voting for Fidler’” (the caps are my mom’s emphasis, my mom reiterated that those were his exact words).

I’m sitting here wondering how much MONEY this seat is worth to either of these gentleman. I refuse to believe that they are both waging such a campaign for the citizens’ good.  Me smells a rat here.

Remember, anybody can call up, sound nasty or demanding and claim they’re working for the opponent to turn off voters. It’s called reverse psychology!

I got a call last night from asking me who I was voting for, but when I asked who they were working for it took 10 minutes for a supervisor to get on and tell me “Storobin,” so I hung up.

Yet I’ll bet you instantly believe any Republican dirty trick story that comes your way.

Sounds like dirty tricks to me. That’s a totally ridiculous approach.

      • http://www.brucebrodinsky.com Bruce B

My  mom was getting 3 calls a day for weeks. This has been happening every election for years. You guys are actually claiming the Republicans are targeting my mom with robo-calls and fake calls? For years now? Wow, I have to tell her this, she’ll be so flattered.

You people are so ridiculously one-sided that it’s laughable.

You do realize that your description of the call put it under the category of intimidation. Directly intimidating voters is not only bad form it’s illegal. The people who ran Fidler’s campaign were professionals who had worked a number of campaigns before. Storobin’s cast, OTOH, seemed far less professional.

Since I had been at Fidler’s campaign headquarters I think I have a pretty good idea of what was expected of volunteers. I also knmow they were working from lists, and those who were phoned were marked off from that list.

I’ll tell you the worst disruption yet. I walked into Bay Academy to vote just before and had the misfortune of entering the cafeteria just as the kids were being let out of school. The yelling and screaming in the cafeteria was unbearable. Maybe Fidler or Storobin paid the kids to be that loud and rambunctious.

I went to that school, when it was called Reynolds JHS. Were we that loud? Probably!

How would that help or hurt either one?
Besides, students are not allowed near polling places in schools!

      • http://www.brucebrodinsky.com Bruce B

Umm, the comment about Fidler and Storobin paying kids was a joke. Oy vey.

Near the polling place? They were right up my back in Bay Academy! I had to walk around them to fill out my voting sheet! Their candy machine was right next to where I filled out the sheet! IF that’s a law, it wasn’t being obeyed!

We were terrible back then. I still have hearing damage from that cafeteria.

Dewey’s was just loud because everyone was talking at once.

      • http://www.brucebrodinsky.com Bruce B

Now that’s a thought. I to have some loss of hearing, never considered that Dewey could have caused it!

  • BayResident

Wow. One of Storobin’s staffers came by the RAJE program again last week looking for volunteers to “translate” at the polls today. Now I’m kind of upset that I have to be working instead. Sounds like it might have been a fun time.

Going to vote right after work!

    Storobin is winning.

What is he winning?  The sleaziest candidate race?
No votes have been tallied yet, unless you have someone leaking then from the Board of Erections.

Think about this. How would a Fidler volunteer know that someone is getting Section 8? Additionally, the workers call from specially prepared lists of voters.

    The sleaze never ends.

Driving by Cunningham almsot every weekday it’s impossible the supposed violator got more than a block before sitting at a red light for 5 minutes.

I understand shennigans have been part of American elections forever. But we are approaching an awful  situation somewhere between unserious dog&pony shows and 3rd world corruption. While I’m a gentile in Golden’s district, at a loss why the Jewish free paper on my porch screams how Fidler is allowing gay marriage to be taught to Orthodox 6-year olds. Even Governor Cuomo would tell you we’re broke. And this social issue sideshow is what this election is about? Neither candidate has said one word about the fiscal debacle. Good job guys-go down to Ringling Brothers next month at MSG and get outfitted with big shoes and rubber noses.

Is ANYBODY in power going to be an adult about the unfolding fiscal debacle?

I was a poll worker at PS 254 where Storobin and the Chairman of the Brooklyn Republican party showed up claiming to have genuine affadavits certifying them as poll watchers. The Chairman of the Brooklyn GOP was electioneering with the voters
inside the poll site. I did a double take when I saw Mr. Storobin, not believing that a candidate for public office could either be so dumb to violate a fundamental principle of the sanctity of the voting process or knowingly commit such an illegal act. He and his cohorts were eventually tossed out. It was too weird for words and now after reading of these even more heinous events I do have to wonder what the next destination for Mr Storobin will be.

    Criminal Court?
