So nolastname was just wandering around the Bay this morning with her camera, when she stumbled upon this kid “bombed” in the Waldbaum’s parking lot on Ocean Avenue at around 9:00 a.m. Apparently, he face planted.

An FDNY ambulance pulled up next to the kid (who did not notice), and then turned on the siren. The kid shot up “like a bat outa’ hell,” according to nolastname, and tried walking away.

We’re betting the conversation between the EMS responders went something like this:

“Oh, look, a kid on the floor.”

“Is he dead?”

“I don’t know, let’s find out.”

Whoooop! Whooooop!

“Nope. And apparently he has healthy bowels, too….”

Don’t do drugs, kids. People will make fun of you.

I was trying to avoid this because I don’t enjoy jumping the gun to be a Cranky Old Man who remembers back in his day (wrongly) that everything was better when…

    But…

Mine eyes perceive an uptick in derelict youth of a bad sort in Sheepshead Bay. Drugs have hit the children and hit them hard. This is not Baltimore and we don’t need an Omar from the Wire taking care of business…yet…but going by anecdotal evidence, it’s getting worse.

I visit the block I grew up on a few times a week. Before I moved, I noticed with every summer that a particular group of teenagers (either Soviet-born or born here but raised with the Eastern Euro Brogue) began to form a hanging-out crew in-and-around my building. Each year, when the weather gets warm, they hang around more, get louder, more abrasive, in people’s faces, and clearly are upping their drug intake.

Interestingly, every year they seem to have 1 black kid with them but it changes every year. I guess they have a quota. The one from last year essentially moved into my building, running people in-and-out the building and up-and-down the stairs where the deals went down. This is not a project mind you. This is an overpriced co-op building.

Piss and puke on the stairs, smell of weed all over. Yep.

Now, this year, I see the same or another crew hanging out down the block from my building. And not only do they smoke weed on the street in broad daylight and do all the posing of gangstas, they seem to have a deal with the cops. I saw a patrol car stop once, and the young cop in the passenger seat was talking with one of the hoods like they were old friends.

And in my building last week: four girls hanging out in the stairwell…and one was definitely on Meth.

Oh yeah…good times in Sheepshead Bay.

I have been seeing more and more drug use on the streets. Exchanges in broad daylight. One kid (ha,kid in his 20′s) was rolling a blunt in Bedford Park in the middle of the day. I confronted him and when it got to my mother being called names I just started yelling “Someone call 911″. They got up and left but how brazen they are.

      • Local Broker

This is nothing new. I was rolling blunts in Bedford park in 94 then playing roller hockey. The only difference is now kids dont have any respect for anyone because there are no consequences. Kids used to get smacked if they got out of line. There has always been drug use in the area and available everywhere. The area used to be a lot worse with gangs and fighting all the time. The older crowd like yourself think its worse now because there are a lot more people here and you see it often. I dont know how it was in the 60s-70s but the 80s-90s were much worse than today.

        • Cmkbny

You don’t have to tell me, I hung out in Kelly Park in the late 60′s.
The days when the scooter cop actually stopped the kids making trouble on the avenues. Kids wearing tough guy T’s were told to put a shirt on.
These kids today have no one to fear. Every neighborhood had a step forward person that would keep them in line.
This was in a park full of women and children…the only other person to step up was a woman to say thank you. They are not just smoking pot….there’s all kind of chemicals on pretreated pot never mind what they sprinkle into it. I don’t want my grands down wind of any smoke never mind this shit.

I am not saying this is right or ok just saying its nothing new and not a cause of the demographic change.

          • nolastname

            “Demographic change” ?.

The first commenter above mentioned Soviets.

i hung out at bedford the same time. probably know you.

        • JR

there’s definitely a new generation of parents who are going to kill there kids if they get out of line b/c their parents didn’t hit them… its cyclical, next generation won’t be as bad from what I’m seeing

      • ShadowLock

umm…. for the record, you should probably mind your business and call a cop. cause you have a huge sack to confront anyone you don’t know.

What if………that kid had a Weapon?  Also, it’s weed not Crack.

        • nolastname

It’s probably treated with chemicals. Would you want your child, niece or nephew inhaling it?
My friend tells me I love confrontation….I don’t love it, I am not afraid of it. If something needs to be said I will say it size and shape does not matter to me.
I do not worry about how an ass might act when I am on a mission. F’em if they can’t take a joke. Thanks for the heads up.

the economy ,bipartisan politics, sub par educational system, dysfunctional family environment…and the beat goes on

       Call the cops! duhh……

    • Gene2T

      dude, call cops!

On the other note.. I loved what you said.. .. I want a T-shirt like that now

Red shirt .. and on it … “Soviet-Born” NICE! BUya !

Kid on the picture has Yankees on it….. He is a yankee!!

    • cmkbny

Thanks for sharing this. “SOME” people think things like this only happen in public housing.

      • nolastname

Scroll to Old Sheepshead Hand. Condo’s have problems, it is not just public housing.

  • ES

How tragic. This kid should seek help. I cut through the Waldbaum’s parking lot pretty much every day, through the opening on Shore Parkway, and there are always a couple of vagrants hanging out by the change machines. It’s no place for a young man to end up.

    • nolastname

Tragically, I doubt he will. He might be lucky enough to live to hit bottom.
Who knows….maybe it is a first and last time.

      • ES

Maybe someone who knows him will read this post and show it to him, and this can be his wake-up call. It would be a lot healthier than his hitting bottom vis-a-vis a massive overdose in the sleazy area near the bottle exchange machines behind the trucks at Waldbaum’s. I hope that he gets the help he needs. He, or someone who cares for him, should call Dynamite Youth Center on Coney Island Avenue — they deal with young people suffering from addiction.

        • nolastname

Dynamite has been there for more than 40 years. It is rare that an addict of any kind seeks nor wants help before they hit bottom and even then the odds are against them. I hope he get help also. This is where the higher power comes in…be it a rock or whatever. Rarely can friends or family provide what is needed for a clean and sober life.

          • ShadowLock

Dynamite is a huge piece of shit.   its where kids go to meet More kids who done drugs…

It’s like Facebook in Real life.

          • nolastname

I did not say what it is, just that it has been there a long time. If it was not making some sort of progress I think monies would not be available to them.

          • ShadowLock

but see……..they are making progress…. You take a Druggie put them there, the druggie stays clean for 3 months, makes friends, comes back sober, goes with his new friends and gets even better shit. So if the kid was doing coke…..he’ll probably be doing Crack or Meth.

an old friend went there for being addicted to ecstasy, he came out meeting heroin addicts…..Guess where he ended up.

      • JR

kid’s probably a multi millionaire… All the good screw ups and crazies in MB/Brighton are kids of millionaires

  • Kon

Wait. I think the bigger news here is that Nolastname is a girl. Did anyone else know this?

    • Vik

I think a lot of us did know that.  You just missed the memo…

      • nolastname

        ROFLOL  ;-}

    • Ghfhjg

Being that nolastname was carrying HER camera, I think it’s safe to say nolastname is a girl…

    • Cmkbny

If they have been paying attention….yes, this is not news.

    • http://www.brucebrodinsky.com Bruce B

I was going to post that. I’m shocked!

  • nolastname

The odds for an alcoholic or drug addict to completely recover are 1 in 10.

  • 90SBROOKLYN

I don’t see why this needed to be posted.Everyone had that day…I did,and if you did’t your probably a crazy cat lady or something. If this kid is seen every day passed out on the ground in shitty pants than ok

    • nolastname

The same as there is a lesson in anything.
If he see’s it maybe he won’t do it again or some other kid won’t do it for the first time.
About the crazy cat, mine 1 cat just had to be put to sleep. Why don’t you adopt one.

      • 90SBROOKLYN

Don’t make this like i am a psycho cat murderer because you don’t like my comment.I feel horrible for anyone that loses a pet,i been there…but anyways, stay out of peoples business, you might take pics of someone that didn’t want to be posted online and find out the hard way, your just a poster correct?you don’t make money from advertising on this site do you?stop being a crazy cat lady….crazy cat lady

        • nolastname

Tough shit. You made yourself out to be a psycho. I did not put any words in your mouth. And I did just put my cat down. Too bad you used a bad choice of words. Not my problem.
If it’s in public it is everyones business. What are you trying to tell me someone is coming after me? I’ll wait. Stop minding my business. Take your own advice.

          • 90SBROOKLYN

            Piss off

    • nolastname

Having this day does not make a better person, there is no bennefit to it.
And, not everyone “had that day”.

  • nolastname

If you have a teenager….show them this. Then have a real conversation.

  • ShadowLock

What if he was just….. Handicap?

and you folks are talkin smack!  and Nolastname taking pictures of mentally handicapped children….i dunno….something doesn’t add up.

also maybe his parents beat the crap out of him….. jeez..

    • nolastname

LOL. When I pulled into the lot he was bleeding from his head, before I could explain the situation to 911 the ambulance pulled in. He showed no signs of being disabled except for being comfortable on the sidewalk. I am CPR trained and would have applied ice to his head at the most. If his parents beat the shit out of him he probably deserved it….If they see this maybe they will send him to Gerritsen Creek for a switch. And if he does not pick one thick enough his parents will.

  • nolastname

For some reason i can not reply to Shadow,….sorry for your friend. Like I said. The odds are ONE IN TEN. Just like jailhouse people make friends to benefit themselves. If their mind is still sick, they make sick choice.s Remember 1 in 10.
I don’t know why you are being argumentative.

  • http://www.brucebrodinsky.com Bruce B

At least he wasn’t wearing a Red Sox sweatshirt….

  • geneee

i seen this kid. he was drunk not on drugs.

    • Gene2T

did you smell him? or you gave him breathalyzer test? How do you know that he was drunk?
