Valentine day

Yes folks, it’s that time of year again. Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.

Some say that this is the day of the year to celebrate and cherish the one you love. Others claim it’s a manufactured holiday, conjured up by the greeting card and candy manufacturers as a ploy to lure us all into the stores.

Either way you look at it, there’s a lot of pressure on all of us to spend some cash on our significant other(s). Ya gotta put out!

So, let’s hear it folks. What’s your best Valentine’s Day story? Tell us all about that magical day when love was in the air and romance blossomed. Or tell us your Valentine’s Day horror story. We all have one of them, now don’t we?

It is actually SAINT Valentine’s Day who was a 3rd Century priest jailed for marrying couples in direct opposition to a ban at the time. He was martyred because he would not renounce Christ and worship the idols of the day. After being scourged then stoned they beheaded him. I only write this because sainthood is something not easily earned and unfortunately it usually is with one’s blood. The least we can do is acknowledge that sacrifice, like St. Patrick’s Day.

Surprised you didn’t publish this one. Heard on TV over the weekend that the City was offering Valentines Day tours for couples in the evening of the Newtown Creek Sewage Treatment Plant. Wonder if they get any takers. Can’t think of a place I’d rather go for Valentines Day. The highlight of the tour will be that you will be able to see how the giant digesters work. Wonder why they aren’t offering tours of the plant on Knapp Street? Maybe it’s a hipster thing.
