2842 Brigham Street, as drawn by Eisenberg's 6-year-old.

A lesson for landlords: if you’re going to pick a fight with a tenant, don’t do it with a social media guru of international acclaim. They might just air your dirty laundry.

That’s the lesson being learned by the property owners of 2842 Brigham Street – an address that may well live on in infamy thanks to a new website bearing its name: www.2842brigham.com.

Founded by Sheepshead Bay resident Bryan Eisenberg, the newly-launched website chronicles his family’s battle with landlord Mehtab Malhi. Malhi bought the house in October and, according to Eisenberg, it’s been constant clashes since then. To top it all off, Eisenberg said Malhi has attempted to enforce his tyrannical rule by abusing his power as a police officer, calling in favors from colleagues.

But Eisenberg’s got a few friends of his own. A best-selling author of books about online marketing and social media, Eisenberg sought to harness the power of the web to bring attention to his cause. After launching the 2842Brigham.com blog, he broadcast its posts to his network of thousands on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere.

“The number one reason I chose to bring this online is that there is little support online or anywhere for tenants who live in two-family homes,” said Eisenberg. “Sheepshead Bay is full of these, as you know. I want to create a resource for people who may go through this and don’t know what to do.”

So far, though, the website has only focused on the ordeals of its eponymous address.

Among the accusations, Eisenberg claims that after buying the property, in which Eisenberg has another year on his lease, Malhi immediately began packing the three-bedroom apartment with a dozen relatives.

It wasn’t so bad at first, with Malhi offering a move out agreement that would cover expenses, release the Eisenberg fmaily from their lease and return the security deposit. But the situation quickly soured, with Eisenberg saying Malhi reneged on the deal and went about creating an unsafe and unsanitary environment, including cluttered stairways and cockroaches. The harassment escalated, with loud banging occurring in the middle of the night, and utilities and appliances being disconnected.

Hear the sounds that have Eisenberg up at night:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

According to Malhi, though, Eisenberg is the perp and he’s the victim.

He admits the children have been loud, pointing out that he’s got six of them all under 6 years old.

“I’m not going to tie them up,” Malhi said, but he has offered apologies to Eisenberg.

But aside from that, it’s all eyes on Eisenberg. Malhi said the tenant’s appliances like the dryer needed to be disconnected because they were in violation of codes, and they had prompted National Grid to cut off gas. Additionally, he said his tenant is taking up illegal basement space outside of his lease, and that he has also raided their storage in the basement, moving items out and placing them in the stairwell.

The situation has also been a financial drain, said Malhi, who has not only had to retain a lawyer, but also spend money on security cameras to document the situation, in which he said Eisenberg’s wife has “stalked” his wife, even shouting and cursing at her.

“I bet he told you I was a police officer and abused my power, right?” Malhi asked. “Anyone can come from anywhere and can start claiming ‘This guy is a police officer and is harassing me.’ Anyone can make false accusations, and that’s what he’s doing. All I can do is wait for the courts to decide.”

It’s not just the courts, either. Eisenberg filed complaints with 61st Precinct – who declined to comment, saying it is now an Internal Affairs investigation – as well as Councilman Lew Fidler’s office.

“We immediately contacted four City agencies for assistance (NYPD, DSNY, Health and Buildings), plus a tenant advocacy organization,” said Reeves Eisen, Fidler’s chief of staff. The tenant advocate is negotiating to have them released from the lease and a full refund on their security deposit. But, according to the latest update on his blog, Eisenberg said the landlord is pushing an unreasonable condition that they move within 30 days.

Regardles, Malhi didn’t know about the website until we called, and said he thought it was a cheap shot to sully his name.

“I had no clue [the website existed]. I’m not a regular internet go-er,” he said. “If he did it like that, well, I guess he’s locked into a landlord tenant with me and he’s doing what he can to throw more mud on me.”

Its amazing how one individuals small story of big troubles can be heard by a great many people. To Mr. Eisenberg, sir my uncle is an 27-year Inspector with the New York City police Department and i will pass this story onto his desk. To hear that a police officer of his department is abusing his power would be a great disgrace to the uniform and to the city he protects. I will make it my duty to make sure he hears the name of  Officer Mehtab Malhi and that he works with the people of NYC to ensure that the integrity, honor and power of the department are not being abused. Good luck!

You seem to be jumping the gun, don’t you think. You are going to listen to one person’s tirade and believe it. What happen to innocent until proven guilty? Isn’t that the american justice? Wouldn’t you like to know Mr.Malhi’s point of view before throwing accusations? It’s sad how the mob rises up just so they feel like they are important.

i think this one person has enough proof.

The other person has words, while this one has Proof.

        who to believe?  well Duhhhh

I can take a hammer and bang it on the wall while recording it and blame it on my neighbors. All I am saying is think with an open mind.

what are you, a relative of mr. malhi’s.  This tenant is being harassed, his private property broken into and squeezed out of the space that he is paying for.  I’m glad that Tmachoni is trying to help him.  Landlords can suck and obviously his does.

        • Cindy

FYI – not all landlords are scum – I have had to kick out two tenents in the past 6 years and it was because they did not pay the rent – not for anything I did – they destroyed the apts and it cost me lot of money to put it back in the condition it was when they moved in – brand new.. so don’t say landlords can suck

not true anyyone can tak epictures and stage what they did. their 6 yr did not draw the picture i have kids. ok that was drawn by one of the parents. innocent till proven guilty! the cop never stated his side of the story he probably innocent and getting a lawyer involved to deal with these whacko tenants.

Wow, i looked at the website, and that’s f*ckin Crazy!!!!

This guy Malhi, is real Scum.   you know what, Karma always comes around.

  • http://twitter.com/TheGrok Bryan Eisenberg

We heard Missouri was the show me state. However, My wife and I are born and bred
Brooklynite and we believe in documentation. We’d welcome Ned, or anyone
else to check out all our documentation and for Mr. Malhi to produce some
    documentation.

Let’s start with each and every one of his points:

“Malhi said the tenant’s appliances like the dryer needed to be
disconnected because they were in violation of codes, and they had
prompted National Grid to cut off gas.” National Grid cut off the gas
because Mr. Malhi failed to pay an outstanding utility bill. National Grid gained
access by telling my wife there was something wrong with the meters and then
the next thing we knew we had no gas, hot water or heat. The dryer was
installed by KlearView (Nostrand Ave). The installers actually called a
licensed plumber to verify the connection (JJM Services Inc. Licensed
NYC Plumber #1741). The following day, Con Ed came and saw the washer and
dryer installed as well. There were several home inspections including
Mr. Malhi’s before he purchased the home and they didn’t find a problem.
Lastly, when FDNY was in the house this past week, I asked them if the
installation would violate any fire code and they said it did not.

“tenant is taking up illegal basement space outside of his lease” – They
called the police when we locked the door to our room in the basement.
The police said that Mr Malhi was not reading the lease correctly and that we
should stay away from each other and call them back if we needed any additional help. According to Jalissa (sp?) who I saw
in the Housing Court Help Center Room 404 in 141 Livingston who reviewed our lease, rider and additional paperwork there is no question to the
fact that we are leasing that room in the basement for our own use
exclusively and the only thing we share is the “non-exclusive use” of
    the backyard.

“raided their storage in the basement, moving items out and placing them
in the stairwell” – Why? What would be our incentive at putting our
family at risk by placing items in the stairwell. The only thing we moved
is their punching bag which they illegally placed in my basement room
without my consent. We did push that back into the hallway where it was
before they put it in our room. In our original blog post, we mentioned that they moved our stuff, making us forfeit one of the storage spaces.

“Eisenberg’s wife has “stalked” his wife, even shouting and cursing at
her.” – produce that video – put it on YouTube, if it even exists. We look forward to producing all the documentation and that justice be served. Isn’t that the American way!

Woah, i’m surprised no one is being able to help you in this matter as of yet!

      • tab

Nobody has been been able to help in the matter because its one person’s word against the other. Neither of them have documentation or proof. An audio clip isn’t proof as there’s no visual and no confirmation as to who is making the noise.

        • Stacey Eisenberg

There was the night that I called 311 and the precinct and they even heard it over the phone…..  There is also the clip of the noise waking up our 2 year old…. WHY would I do ANYTHING to wake up a 2 year old who is happily asleep???

I’ve personally know Bryan for over 10 years and he is a remarkable (and upstanding) individual… This abuse is pretty crazy, but whats even crazier is that everyone is turning a blind eye to a credible, professional with a need.  If they aren’t listening to a wall street journal best selling author, then what does that mean for the rest of us?

    • Raiz

I could say the same thing. I have known, Mr.Malhi for most of my life and he is as professional and law abiding as anybody can possibly be. If people are so easily riled up against a cop, what does that mean for the rest of us?

      • Jesse Wallace

yeah he sounds like a super winner, moving into the three bedroom with over a dozen people, how inconsiderate to the renters below.  He has every motive to try and scare these people away, but if he wants to break his contract he must pay, and he won’t pay because he is obviously broke, if he is living with all those people.  And most cops are scum, I’m sorry but join the real world.  I know bullsh1t when I hear it and this is BS, either you don’t really know this guy, or you are scum too, or it is really this scum bucket just trying to fight back the internet backlash.  Believe me, after reading that guys blog, he is going to make this much worse on this pig before it gets better, the pig needs to behave or pay for him to move.  He obviously did not think thru when he purchased the home that he had renters, now he is continually trying to abuse them to get the entire house so all his looser in his family can live there for free or split the mortgage like 3 ways or whatever retarded plan they have.  This blogger threw out facts which can be verified, photographs, either dispute the photograph and the evidence with your own or shut up.  Evidence is not that you know some lackey pig and he is a super nice guy.  He steals from his fellow citizens to raise revenue for the government, he uses force and violence to get respect from his community, and he takes what is not his and enforces laws as he sees fit even when they are not constitutional,  grow up and get out of the world that cops are our friends.

        • Karimadh

The guy is breaking the rules of the lease.  He must remove his items from the basement, which he has no right to use.  He must disconnect his washer, which most certainly is a violation of his lease.    Why isnt he doing these things?  People like him are the renters but they want to act like they own the place without the expenses of it .

          • Jon

Im not automatically siding with Eisenberg, but I do have to defend him here. You are obviously one of the Malhi’s tenants. Eisenberg keeps saying in his lease he is allowed to use the basement. Why would you say he has no right to use it. Unless you know something we don’t. And I believe he moved the the home with a working washer and dryer, so his lease probably allows him to use both. The FDNY even made Malhi move them back in.  Again if the lease doesn’t allow it than I am wrong. But the only way for you to know that he is in violation is if you are living there with the Malhi’s which I’m pretty sure you are.

        • HILDA G

you have no evidence malhi is a bad guy. u r probably brians friend. did you know brian and his family lived on the same block last year in another home a few doors down  and were forced to moved because of landlord tenant ISSUES!!!! two LANDLORDS ON THE SAME BLOCK ARE NO GOOD COME ON PLEASSEEEEEEEEEEE!! I have known Bryan for at least 20 years. He is one of the kindest, sweetest people and wouldn’t ever hurt anyone or lie about anything. He doesn’t need to. He is simply an upstanding kind of guy. It’s very easy to say “well, it’s one word against the other’s”, but really, Bryan is demonstrating every type of proof he actually can…thus far, there has been no proof whatsoever from Mr. Malhi. Anyone with ANY common sense would also realize that banging for extended periods of time, in the middle of the night is abuse and harassment in and of itself…Think about it people, WHY would Bryan take the time to do all of this if he wasn’t telling the truth? He has a demonstrated record of good tenancy in every way with his prior landlord, and simply wants to continue living his life with his wife and children IN PEACE. Bryan has a lease that backs him up as well. Bryan has NO motive for telling anything BUT the truth….I am in his court 100%…..wishing him and his beautiful family immediate relief from all of this.

    • drimmers

“He has a demonstrated record of good tenancy in every way with his prior landlord”  and you know this how???
THIS has to be the biggest piece of bull$hit statement on this topic.

      Bryan
might be going through issues now, and they might all be legit, but
Bryan is no saint – trust me.  We feel for Bryan, but he set himself and
his family up for this, by moving into a home that was for sale,
(research!!!) instead of taking his family and moving out of the
      neighborhood.

      • Coolpanda420

Did you paid him the rent and if not for how many months. I would like to know the other side of story. According to this story its all in your favor and this is becaseu it was writen by you.

      • Jeffrey Eisenberg

He moved in to a house with a lease. Law abiding people depend on contracts to protect their rights. Why should he have moved out of the neigborhood?

On the other hand, Mr. Malhi knew he was buying a house with a legal tenant. He had a choice. If he wanted to occupy the entire house then the ethical choices were either to not buy it or to negotiate with Bryan to leave. Mr. Malhi chose the unethical alternative.

Drimmers, I don’t know who you are but you ask for trust. Trust is earned and you haven’t demonstrated good judgement deserving of trust.

        • Scott

now the fat cat is barking.  Who is talking about trust here, huh?  this comes from a scum who defaulted on a $1M+ loan and was “mutually forced” to resign?  shall i remind you of 2009?  Come on now, don’t open up a can of worms, and choose your words carefully.

      • NE

Drimmers, why should I trust you? Do YOU know Bryan????  What facts are YOU sure of here??? On the other hand, I DO know him, DO know the facts. He and his family do not deserve this…did nothing wrong..have a legitimate lease, and asked for legitimate terms in writing in order for them to move. Instead of complying, Mr. Malhi decided to abuse and harass them.

        • MICHLA ABDULA

HIS WIFE AINT NO SAINT SHES GOTS A BIG MOUTH I LIVE NEARBY. WHY DID THEY LEAVE THEIR OTHER APARTMENT CUZ THEY HAD TO , TO MUCH ELPROBLEMOS!THE MALHIS HAVE A RIGHT TO LIVE IN PEACE ALSO THEY ALSO HAVE FAMILY AND KIDS.

      • MICHLA ABDULA

I heard from neighbor they lived next door and cause up some problemos and they had to move, so they moved to the next door house, who moves on the same block! they need to move! they might be the nicest people on earth but then again the malhis might also be the nicest people on earth. they saved up got a mortgage bought a home and look atthe tennats that came with the home, they need to move and stop with all this babyish crying we have a lease wah wah wah like babies. move get all your friend to lend u some $$$ and move to a nice quiet peaceful place move outta BROOKLYN. cause Brooklyn is full of noise and loud tenants and cursing mothers who yell at their landlords this is BRooklyn.

    • LeaterK

      Bryan,

      stop writing about yourself.

  • http://www.google.com/ F_a_b_a

I too know Bryan for 75 years. He is wonderful, generous man who washes feet of local hobos on weekends. He once won Super Bowl by watching it on TV. Also he is like a modern day saint. His shit smells like flowers and his jizz cures cancer.

    • Stooly

he certainly paints himself that way, and he uses every online technique he knows to squash all the bad articles blog posts and comments written about him and his brother, relating to their monumental failures.  Saints they are!

  • http://www.testmymessage.com Brian S.

For those claiming Bryan has nothing on the landlord: The landlord can easily rectify this. Release the Eisenbergs of their lease, refund their deposit, and give them 90 days to move. I would bet they would be gone ASAP. However, Mahli refuses to do this. He knows that if he can force them out with abuse he can sue them for the remainder of their lease and keep the deposit.

Not to mention that an ethical and decent person who purchased a house with a lease would also offer to help move the tenant and not ask them to move durring the holidays.
I think this is plenty of evidence as to the type of person this police officer is. Obviously not one of NY’s finest.

    • MICHLA ABDULA

THIS IS ONE SIDE OF THE STORY . NEW YORKS FINEST DOE SNOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT IF HE HAS THE EISENBURDENS AS TENANTS, U CANT JUDGE ONE SIDE OVER SOME PICTURES AND THE DRAWING PLEASSEEE I HAVE A 6 YR OLD THAT PICTURE WAS NOT DRAWN BY A 6 YR OLD THAT WAS DRAWN BY THE PARENTS. THATS BULL CRAP I ASKED MY SON TO COPY THE PICTURE OF THE HOUSE AND DRAW IT SAD HE DID NOT DRAW A HOSE LIKR=E THAT, THE PARENTS DREW THE HOUSE AND WANT SYMPATHY CAUS ETHEY HAVE CHILDREN. WELL THE MALHIS I DONT KNOW THEM, BUT THEY ARE PARENTS ALSO AND THEIR DADDY IS OFFICER MALHI AND THE EISENBURDENS ARE NOT NICE WHAT THEY ARE DOING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON . OK SO ITS NOISEY MOVE BORROW MONEY AND MOVE THEY DONT OWN THAT HOME THEY R THE RENTERS. IF THEY R NOT HAPPY THEY CAN MOVE.

the “fame” lasts only for so long.  once people realize that Eisenberg’s stuff is nothing but fluff, and all of their books are nothing but self-promotions and serve as glorified brochures for their not-so-successful businesses, all the fame and money that rolled in with it go away, and you end up renting.
Actually, Bryan, have you ever owned a home, or lived in a rental apartment all your life? (after moving out of your parents home, that is).  didn’t you say you moved into this place after your brother moved, or you lived in this same house prior to your brother?
