What was once Wheeler’s is now Wheelers, reflecting America’s disillusionment with apostrophes. Sorry, I meant to say “Americas disillusionment…”

The venerable bar and grill at 1705 Sheepshead Bay Road took down their rather defeated-looking sign last week, replacing it with a classy black sign with gold-embossed lettering, a new awning, and a fresh paint job along the front.

Looking good, Wheeler’s – er, Wheelers. Looking good…

It’s a damn shame they didn’t incorporate “No Sushi” into the new sign.

Does anyone know if this establishment will serve any type of raw assorted fish?

I personally prefer mine wrapped in rice and seaweed. Like Local Broker, I’d really like to know if I can find it here as well.

Having not much better to do at work, I decided to use my entended knowledge of CSI investigation techniques to see if I can go ahead and find an answer to our question Local Broker. The results were… well… I guess that depends on your point of view.

I can’t understand why everyone loves sushi so much – I brought some home and cooked it up and it tasted just like fish.

i became a sushi addict in 1983, at my memorble date in Manhattan where I wore my shirt inside out, then proceeded to set the menu on fire holding it too close to the candle. I finished the “dream date” by accidentally hurling a piece of sushi and almost hitting someone at the next table. Fortunately, the lady I was with was of good humor, but I  did have to buy my way out of the embarrassing evening!

Obviously you are doing it wrong.

Sushi actually refers to the rice, it’s a method of preparing it so that it’s soured, usually vinegar ;)

  • geneee

they should also have a sign that says “open to cops that love doing coke”

If the name of the family that owns (or owned) the restaurant is Wheeler, then the original Wheeler’s sign was correct since the “apostrophe s” is possessive.  Wheelers without the apostrophe is plural for something with wheels (trucks, bikes, etc.).

Americans do have a love-hate relationship with the apostrophe, and tend to use it incorrectly because teaching English doesn’t seem to be a priority in today’s schools.  (I consider myself lucky to have had English class with Mr. Smookler at Shellbank back in the fifties!)

I love wheelers. The food is great and so is the atmosphere… As for the guy who made the “est” mistake? Dont sweat it. One time, after the third “Falling Rock” sign on the road, i said to my friend “wow that’s a pretty big town”…. We all have one of those in our lives. ….dont we?…DONT WE???

Looks like the kind of sign at dime-a-dozen Irish/English Pubs around town.  At least they didn’t rename it the Bloody Shank’s Tail or something like that.
