Reader Richie spotted this on a car on East 23rd Street. It’s hard to read, but it says “Please don’t be an asshole. Use 1 space for 1 car.”

I think we need a whole series dedicated to “Please don’t be an asshole” signs. Here’s one I made for the commenters:

Whaddya think?!

I don’t understand how this works…. so you parked like a Ahole, and your the one trying to intimidate someone for putting a piece of paper on your window, Stating that you are in fact an Ahole for what you have done….

Think you need to seek Anger Management…

I will kick your ass hole

I would love to see how someone could kick someone directly in their asshole.

          It’s been done.

I have more of a problem with the people that use up two or more parking spaces in lots with clearly marked parking spaces, or just as bad the people that box you in. Though I think in this town, leaving a sign like that might only invite more trouble…

Signs are so primitive. I suggest this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk-8r6lImyI

      That is fucked up.

Only reserved for what you’re really upset. And its not meant to puncture the tire, just deflate it. Put on your spare tire, drive to gas station, and refill the old one. Just causes inconvenience, same thing as he caused you by taking up 2 spots.

Not as fucked up as removing the schrader valve core entirely or leaving it in but slightly loose so it deflates and doesn’t inflate until it is tightened.

Ahh the good ol’ chicken scratch… Many times I think theres a 7 year old on the loose spreading his magical crayon skills..

    Heres a more casual way…

Ass-HO-LE. Love it. Denis Leary that it. LOL

  • Animo916

How about the assholes that take 2 spots at parking meters?  Thinking that if the meter lines up with the door they’re good to go!!

  • nolastname

There are some parking spaces in front of homes where 2 cars can park but one ass has to park in the middle.
The line before the crosswalk is NOT a parking boundary. A car in motion is required to stop before the cross walk. A parked car can pull up to the walkway itself. That is another 3′.

Less concern for, and sense of the other, has been increasing exponentially across our culture. From road rage, to simply holding the door, for the person immediately behind you, as you exit a train station, the writing is on the wall. You are essentially on your own out there, and when you are nice, you are considered, strange. Teach your children well!

    • nolastname

Yes, soooo true. The other day I held the first door leaving the Sheepshead station and the person in a business suit did not even take the door from me. What am I a door woman.
I managed to stay ahead of him for the second door which I let go of. He actually looked shocked.
Now, if he gave me a quarter it would be a diff. thing. lol
I was brought up saying please and thank you amongst other values that were installed. The simplest thing like a nod of the head are becoming more and more rare. With so many rude and in a world of their own folk out there it just doesn’t always seem worth putting your best forward. There are times I have other ideas for where I want to place my foot.

You know, it’s funny – same thing happened to me and a friend yesterday while shopping at the 99cents store on CIA.  My friend held the door for a person who just walked through and didn’t take the door.  Never said thank you.  I told her that if the person behind her doesn’t take the door, just let it go.  I too, was raised to say please, thank you and excuse me. I tell rude people all the time that these 3 words will take them far and others would be polite back to them.  I know exactly how you feel, but be careful of where you put your foot.

        • Al Knowles

I’ve closed the door on people who refuse to hold it.   Works well when you can see people not even attempting to hold the door.  Instead of holding it, I wind up pushing the door on them.

  • RKramden

If someone had put that exact message on my window without the term ‘asshole’, I would have probably felt a little guilty and gone out of my way to park carefully from there on out.

However, seeing the term ‘asshole’ immediately tells me that I’m dealing with a rude prick, and my immediate first reaction is to start a plan to show them just how much of an asshole I can be.

    • Boris

Unless your plan includes parking your car in 2 spaces and then sitting in it all day (or conducting covert surveillance from nearby), I wouldn’t advise trying to be a super asshole. Certainly not in front of my house, at any rate.

but all in all how do you know that this guy took 2 parking spots? maybe car that was behind or upfront moved and someone else parked there differently leaving this guy in the middle looking like he is taking 2 spots? But! people who park like that with intent to show how they dont give a fuck about others by taking 2 spots are in fact assholes
