We sure hope you weren’t planning a night out in the city, or perhaps a visit to Ground Zero for September 11. If so, don’t expect the MTA to cooperate with your plans: there will be no Q subway service this weekend in Southern Brooklyn.

From 10:00 p.m. tonight (Friday) to 5:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, there will be no Q trains running between Prospect Park and Stillwell Avenue. There will be shuttle buses, but we all know that’s not the most efficient or speedy service between our area and points north. Here’s the shuttle information:

  • For service between Stillwell Avenue and Brighton Beach, use the B68 bus (Manhattan-bound customers should consider taking the D, F or N train from Stillwell Avenue).
  • For service between Brighton Beach and Prospect Park:
  • Limited shuttle bus makes all station stops between Brighton Beach and Kings Highway, then runs non-stop between Kings Highway, the Flatbush Avenue 2 station and Prospect Park.
  • Local shuttle bus makes all station stops between Kings Highway and Prospect Park.

Additionally, uptown Q trains run local from Canal Street to 34th Street.

In all, this is hopefully the last blast of mass transit pain we’ll see for a while, with a nice emotional salve coming at the beginning of next week, when the express B train makes its triumphant return.

However, we’ve got raised eyebrows at the timing of this. The tenth anniversary of September 11 is an event that many New Yorkers will pay tribute to. And with so many families in Southern Brooklyn affected by the terrorist attacks – given the number of civil servants and emergency responders that hail from our area – it seems that the authority is cutting off access to larger tributes and memorials that residents may have preferred to attend.

Is this weekend shutdown a snub to locals who would’ve liked to attend larger ceremonies? Or just a poorly considered decision to complete last minute work prior to rebooting express Brighton-line service?

    This is bullshit.
You can bet all your money Bloomberg would never even think about closing any line in Manhattan.
Bloomie your are short dick queer. And not even good queer like from the Village (btw they do have trains running in Village).

You might be right about everything else but the MTA is a State agency.  So he does not make any decisions about “closing any line in Manhattan”.

      • Neighbor

No, MTA is not State. It is a curious thing under the City, same time pseudo independent with an overview from the State. The whole structure is tied to City management.

Seems like the MTA can’t do anything without being criticized. They started the reconstruction two years ago with a promise to have it completed in two years and they complete it on schedule and people are not happy. Perhaps waiting another weekend would have involved costing more which they can il afford. If it would have been delayed by six months, people would be bitching anyway. It seems they just can’t win whatever they do.

    • Anonymous

Hey BB you should know answer to this one: how many subway lines do you know that went through reconstruction in Manhattan and were closed for days on weekend?

      • Anonymous

Would you rather they close down the Brighton line on a weekday?

Actually this weekend, the L is also shut down in Manhattan from 8th Avenue all the way to Broadway Junction in Brooklyn.

        • Anonymous

          Sir don’t be a jerkoff.
You know Exactly what I mean.  And L train makes 1 stop between 8th Ave and Broadway.
Are you trying to tell me you don’t see the difference between closing 3 stops for one day and closing Q line entirely from Stillwell Avenue and Brighton Beach to Prospect Park on weekends for 2 years? Better yet do you know how many times they closed the line and not told people about it? Or how many times they said the service will stop running at 12 am but they stopped service at 11:10pm? Let me assure you crap like this does not happen on the lines that for the most part service Manhattan.
Who is trolling who now Mr. I Live On MB and my shit stinks so much better than your shit across the canal. Go check your sump pump Mr MTA.

My shit has so much smog I need to get it inspected every 12 months by NYS DMV :)

I usually don’t insult people, but in your case I will make an exception. LEARN HOW TO READ Mr. Faba. I specifically said Broadway Junction in Brooklyn, not Broadway in Manhattan.  So that is not 3 stops, its the entire line in Manhattan, 5 stops plus virtually the rest of the line in Brooklyn and it’s the entire weekend, not one day.

Also, since when was the Q line closed on weekends for 2 years?  It was closed about a half dozen times and usually it was only part of the line, and that was absolutely necessary. How do you realign tracks without closing the line or build temporary stations?  And they never closed the line without telling people about it beforehand. You were probably just not paying attention.

I’m not trying to defend the MTA. Perhaps the trains stopped running an hour before they said it would, and I know the shuttle buses were screwed up at times. But you are just making up shit here. And I also live on MB, so we smell the same shit.

Ok I do apologize for Broadway Junction in Brooklyn and its not 1 day it’s two days of no service. Besides great person once said, “Don’t let the truth interfere with a good story.”
Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, you Sir are full of shit. Their is no way Q train was closed only 6 times in last 2 years. You Sir have to get your sump pumping buttocks out of your pristine neighborhood and take a subway once in a while. While I do not need to take subway everyday now I have been commuting almost exclusively on subway for 10 years. Since construction on B,Q line started taking a train has became such choir that in many instances it is easier to drive in to the city than take a train. Just on top of my head I recall 2 instances in April 2011 when it took about 1 hour and 50 minutes to get from 34th St to Sheepshead Bay. This is some third world bullshit right there. Btw on other instance it took 2 hours and 30 minutes to get from Sheepshead Bay to Williamsburg. Same trip driving would take you 25-35 minutes. Subway cars are filthier now than I can remember them and the ride cost more than ever before.  B,Q line has been nothing more but unusable for anyone who wants to be at work on time or get drunk in the city on weekend. I feel that every person who takes B,Q lines 5 days a week deserves his and her feet kissed by MTA board of directors.
I don’t care what you say Mr Bus, none of the Manhattanites are subjected to this kind of abuse. This mayor created a clear barrier between people who live in the city and the rest of NYC “wannabe” boroughs.
Manhattan gets the best, they get it first, and the get the first and last piece of the pie. Southern Brooklyn get’s to lick the spoon if we behave and do the dishes.

Well, I’ll give you one thing, you certainly do have a way with words FABA. Just one question. I won’t disagree that using the shuttle bus is a pain in the ass. So after the first time, wouldn’t it have been easier to use the F and a crosstown bus instead?

I would rather have a little dirt in the subway cars than the lack of A/C. or fans and grafitti we had in the 70s. And the cost isn’t so bad when you consider inflation and the free transfers we have now but didn’t have back then.

I agree wirh you 100% in what you say about the mayor and his bias toward Manhattan but that is irrelevant in this discussion.

          • Anonymous

“Well, I’ll give you one thing, you certainly do have a way with words FABA.”

Thank you Mr. Bus. This is the nicest thing anyone said to me here and it means so much specially coming from a person who is so eloquent when it comes to written word.

Now to answer your question. My subway riding is quiet sporadic and usually involves unscheduled trips in to Manhattan. On more than one occasion problems with B, Q line occurred on the way back home late at night. Taking a bus from F line in ungodly hour while being intoxicated and having bladder full of delicious beer can be more than a simple guy from Brooklyn can bare.
Now that I think about it I stay away from buses most of the time. I think what I do not like about buses is that it takes forever to get to pretty much any place. This might or might not be true but this is perception I have of buses. Between waiting for a bus and then enduring stops every 3 blocks is a bit much for my taste. Maybe if their were more express buses (for the same price as regular buses) I would enjoy them much more?

          • Anonymous

Wow that’s some improvement. I’ve gone from being full of shit to “eloquent”. I should quit while I’m ahead.

No, you are not wrong. It does take forever to get pretty much anywhere by local bus. Driving in Brooklyn, although sometimes two or three times faster than bus is no bargain either when I consider that I can get to Nassau County in the same time it takes me to get to Borough Park, Park Slope or northern Brooklyn.

          • Anonymous

Oh you can be both: eloquent and full of shit :)
In fact most politicians are eloquent speakers and full of shit.
Some day I will have both qualities as well, you just wait and see.

BTW Mr Bus-man-MTA-DOT-and-every-other-gov-agency-that-makes-everyone life-a-living-hell, Brooklyn Br was (is) under construction and was suppose to be closed at night starting at 10pm. Guess how many times the bridge was closed at 9:30-9:45pm? No one in city government gives a shit. During one particular night 2 lanes not one but two out of three lanes were closed on West side highway at 8 pm for repairs. So after driving 5 miles in hour and 30 min you got to Brooklyn Br only to find it it closed at 9:30pm instead of 10pm. And not a single genius in this fucking city didn’t get a brilliant idea to place giant electronic message board right next to Battery Tunnel saying “We closed Brooklyn Br already take Battery Tunnel or you will have to drive all the way to Houston St just to make a U turn.”
MTA rapes people who drive and spits in the face of people who commute by public transportation.

Oh and one more thing about our wonderful mayor Bloomberg. You know how he suppose to be taking subway to work everyday like the rest of us peasants? Well guess what? He drives SUV to subway station. He is driven 22 blocks to the subway station at 59th Street and Lexington Avenue, where he can board an express train to City Hall.

          • Anonymous

I wouldn’t disagree here either. I am no fan of DOT. They are even worse than the MTA which run well by comparison. I also knew about Bloomberg being driven.

hate to burst your bubble, but after the reopening of Avenue M and Avenue H, all trains will continue to make local stops while the temporary platforms are removed and finishing touches are made to some stations. You have the wait until October 3 for the return of the (B)loated Express

    • BrooklynBus

Monday’s article said probably before the end of the month.  Didn’t see the October 3rd date.  Is that on the MTA website now?

      • winson

check the thread “End of Brighton Rehab” on nyctransitforums. someone posted a link to the MTA website saying that express service will be restored on October 3. Also, some of the stations have posters saying this. check it whenever you can. People are taking this shutdown too seriously. We had the same shutdown last yeaar on the 9th anniversay of the attacks and nothing went wrong. Just allow more travel time. If the 2 train was extended to KCC or the Utica Avenue Line was built, this would not be as big as a problem.

  • MTARipsusoff

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MY $104 METROCARD WAS NOT GIVEN A ONE DAY EXTENSION. THE STUPID MTA DID CLOSE DOWN THE SYSTEM DURING THE HURRICANE DID THEY NOT? WE PAID OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS WHICH IS NOT CHUMP CHANGE. THEY CLOSED DOWN THE SYSTEM. WE DID NOT! THEY OWE ALL OF US MONTHLY HOLDERS AN EXTRA DAY. YOU PIECES OF CRAP! YOU OWE US ALL AN EXTRA DAY FOR EACH WEEKEND YOU SHUT DOWN THE LINE AND WE CAN NOT USE IT. IT IS TIME TO GOTO MTA HEADQUARTERS AND DEMAND JUSTICE BE SERVED FOR THE PEOPLE!

    • BrooklynBus

Walder said, it wasn’t possible to program that into the system.  They could have given everyone a free day, but you probably still would have complained since some people would have benefited who didn’t buy a card.  Realistically, how many people would have used the system if it was running? They did give a half day of free service when it was restored.  I feel sorry for the people with unlimited cards who had to take cabs. Those people deserve to be reimbursed for those fares.

      • Anonymous

They also dropped the tolls to make sure poor folks would leave their homes and reinstated them right back as soon as it was OK to drive back in. Very scumbag move even for my taste. Tell poor people you can leave for free but if you want to get back home you have to pay the troll toll :)

      • Anonymous

Don’t you find it strange that they can program how to take money out of your account through your anus if they have to but they can’t find a way to reimburse you in case the services are not available?

        • Anonymous

Agreed they just should have given everyone a free day.
