Breaking: Six Car Crash On Avenue W!

Around 1:30 p.m. today, a little red Honda, traveling south on East 23rd Street, ran the stop sign at Avenue W, an action that eventually turned into an accident involving six vehicles, witnesses said.

After running the sign, the Honda proceeded into the intersection directly into the path of a white Access-a-Ride van that was traveling east.

The Access-a-Ride van hit the Honda, taking off its front bumper and then careened into a west bound blue van. Enjoying this merger, they then brought a silver Lexus into the party that was parked happily on the north side of Avenue W, knocking it up on to the sidewalk.

Of course the Lexus couldn’t leave its friend and companion, knocking the front end of a white van that was parked behind it.

Not to be out done, the little red Honda crashed into a blue parked car on the south side of Avenue W. Avenue W was not a good place to park today.

The driver of the little red Honda complained of chest and leg pains, but walked unaided to the ambulance. No one else reported any injuries.

As of 3:15 p.m., they are still towing away damaged vehicles and Avenue W remains closed between East 23rd Street and East 24th Street.

    I am the only one in the neighborhood that stops at that stop sign and the one on Ave W and E 24st.  Not surprisingly, it is always the same ethnicities that never stop…Asian and Russian.  In fact, the same people don’t stop at the stop signs on Neck Road…especially near the train station. doesnt surprise me that this happened but does surprise me that it hasn’t happened more often.

        Gene, I am an American who works on the books and pays my taxes. I do not scam the government of the country I now live in by accepting food stamps while wearing a fur coat and driving a Lexus.  I am an everyday working person who gets upset to see people come to this country and expect some sort of entitlement as if they did anything to deserve it. 

        If you and anyone posting is not part of that blanket statement, then i wholeheartedly apologize, but I think I pretty much hit the nail on the head of the majority in the area…..

      An incorrect assumption.  Being Russian, I have never ran a stop sign, and always take extra caution while crossing that particular intersection since I have seen many accidents there. 
      I also have never witnessed any of my family member act as you have implied in your comment.

        it is not an incorrect assumption, maybe just a blanket statement based on my walking and driving around these parts for the past 25 years. EVERY SINGLE DAY getting off the train i get SOMEONE in a fancy car with the aforementioned people in it blowing the stop sign and either looking at me as if i did something wrong or not even paying attention or even smirking.  Same thing by E 24 and W..an all way stop sign that no one ever stops at.

        I applaud you and your family for following the laws in the country you now live in, however unfortunately you are not the majority of the Russian people in the neighborhood.

          I can’t tell you how many times I see the kids of Americans steal fruits on nostrand and throw them across the street at each other. Guess thats OK. You are a moron. I’d love to see you make some stereotypical comments about blacks, or Hispanics, or Muslims and see how well that’s received. I can make jokes like that, but that’s because I am Russian. You say that shit seriously, which is a clear indication of your jealousy.

          I have similar close calls with peoples of the former soviet union on an almost daily basis. I walk through crosswalks and it’s almost like a game of chicken with these knuckleheads doing the california roll through the stop signs. Some of them give me dirty looks – some braver ones have even cursed at me.

          Here’s a hint for you knucklehead drivers out there: I HAVE THE FUCKIN’ RIGHT-OF-WAY! Got it? I don’t backdown! – hit me and i will own you! (if i survive of course).  I grew up in the bay, am of russian descent and feel totally comfortable agreeing with OnlyStopper on this one. The facts are the facts.HAPPY MOTORING!

            I grew up in Canarsie, one of only 10 other white kids in the neighborhood. One can imagine life wasn’t easy for me. But imagine I went on a public forum and said the nasty shit you are saying. I’d be crucified, and rightfully so. You guys are on of your minds if you think the stereotypical shit you are saying is fair to say. Same stereotypical shit like that would never fly about other ethnicities, fact or not.

            Granted, SOME Russians of recent immigrant stock do this. But then, to listen to other people’s observations, it has to be SOME asians as well. And SOME Orthodox Jews. Possibly a FEW albino midgets also, though I shall admit that generally, midgets are usually much more careful in driving.

            I’ve been rear-ended and broad-sided by asians in two seperate accidents, so don’t get me started with them.

            I also kissed a windshield at age 16 because a haasid blew through a light – ’nuff said.

            So you might be right about the height challenged drivers. (see, I can be P.C.)

            What I was saying in my earlier post is based on recent experiences in the Bay.

      I think you can tell an asian person from non-asian; but how can you tell a russian person, unless they are blasting russian music loudly, or have a russian flag sticker on the bumper?!
      Also, how do you know that asian or russian person wasn’t born in the USA like you were?

      Ethnicity has nothing to do with bad driving. It’s the lack of enforcing road rules and bad manners which is where it all stems. I drive responsibly, but I see bad road etiquette from everybody, pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. People speed, honk for no reason, driving with their high beams on, don’t use signals, weave in-and-out of traffic and go against the light.

      The government needs to start mandatory refresher courses every five years or something, because bad drivers keep driving bad, regardless of ethnicity, unless they get reminders. Chances are a bad driver will fuck up their refresher lessons, because they get used to driving the way they do, if they never get called on it.

    I was born in NY and on my mother’s side 5th generation American. On my father’s side I’m 1st generation American.  This AMERICAN thing is nonsense and a distraction to the fact that there has been a huge increase in ignoring our traffic laws & in disrespecting/devaluing our neighbors.  I’ve lived in this community for 40years and am about to leave it as I can no longer live where people are NOT valued for their contributions & DO NOT RECOGNIZE THEMSELVES that they have value they could offer.

    I live on that block and I can honestly say that every ethnicity is an equal opportunity non-stopper.  I have lived in that area on and off for 20+ years and I do have to say that there is definitely some anti-russian feelings from the American born people who have lived there.  I have seen it myself and they are not 100% wrong…but it is a certain amount of people that ruin it for everyone…just like EVERY OTHER ETHNICITY! and then everyone clumps that group into one and generalizes.  I used to work at the Key Food on Ave U and E 18th for those who remember that place and I saw first hand Russians who did not speak much english treat me like crap as if i was there to serve them like a slave..walk in with a fur coat coming out of an expensive car…and then pay for their groceries with food stamps mixed in between $100 bills.  Does it mean that every Russian immigrant is the same?  NO!  I grew up with plenty and the ones I knew were all good people.

    It is nice to see that Cabbie admitted to seeing the same thing from his own people…but I bet Cabbie drives just fine.  I bet if i went to another neighborhood, i would see similar things from whatever ‘newer’ ethnicity migrated there. 

    Turns out the woman who caused the accident may have had a heart attack…if that is the case…then we were all wrong…lets all just live in peace!

      This reminds me of the old soviet era,.. if something is wrong just blame the jews,…
      There are plenty of americans, puerto ricans, mexicans, and all else who are taking advantage of the system and abusing welfare, food stamps and so on…
      Using same food stamps and on welfare but chatting on their iphones with $200 air jordans…
      i bet if you moved out all the russians and replaced them with someone else you would be quickly changing your mind and calling your russian comrades to move back in…
