Pelame Top Design opened at the end of May, selling fur, leather and shearling apparel from their 1730 Sheepshead Bay Road storefront. Aside from off-the-rack coats and apparel, it offers tailoring, repair and cleaning.

Pelame isn’t a new business. Operating since 1997, it just moved from its 513 Brighton Beach Avenue location.

The Sheepshead Bay Road storefront was previously occupied by Rascals, a kids clothing and accessory store. You might remember that name; we wrote about Rascals back in August, when the “sex shop” KamaSutra opened across the street. The owner, Sabina Furman, told us at the time that she worried the window display may hurt her business. We don’t know what happened, but it was about six months later that Rascals closed.

Best of luck to our new neighbors at Pelame.

I really think that Sheepshead bay Rd is inflicted with some sort of business curse and nothing short of a professional psychic healer  will solve the problem.  Perhaps it’s the bad economy but I have never seen so much business turnover.

Some of the blame of course goes to the business owners.  I mean a sex shop in this neighborhood?  Rarely do I see anyone in there.  Besides, Petco already sells dog collars and for a better price.   Unless they are selling sex pills  without a prescriptions I predict their demise sometime soon.

As for the fur place that’s also very questionable.  Sheepshead Bay Rd get’s most of the traffic in the summer when it’s warm with people going to Emmans Avenue and the beach.  Will anyone on their way to the beach look at these furs and say “Yes this is what I am missing right now?”

So, Brighton Businesses are now just moving to Sheepshead…

I guess if we compare Brighton to Manhattan, then Sheepshead would be Williamsburg?

They move to Sheepshead Bay Road because the rents are lower.

a most unethical business you will find – even by Brighton Beach standards. The owner, Valery, defrauded us by substituting one fur coat with another, of a different size and with a hole. refused to give us back the right coat, or give the money back, and just said he would patch up the hole. we sued. We had 2 court sessions by now, and he keeps lying and twisting facts, contradicting himself in every sentence. His manager called and threatened me. he tried to bully me. Stay away from these people – crooks inside out, and a terrible reflection on the Russian business community.
