Benny’s Gourmet Pizza Is Closed

A reader told me about two weeks ago that Benny’s Gourmet Pizza, at 1730 Jerome Avenue, had closed down. We got over there yesterday to check it out, and that does appear to be the case. After nearly three years in operation, the establishment seems to be shuttered.

We called the business’ number this morning and there was no answer. We’ve been hearing that kosher establishments are becoming more and more in-demand in Sheepshead Bay, and establishments like Cupcake Kings have gone out of their way to get the proper certification to cater to the demographic. So what happened at Benny’s, the only kosher pizzeria in “downtown” Sheepshead Bay?

    I am sick of all these kosher establishments opening in the neighborhood. Those kosher Dunkin Donuts are bloody awful. Kosher pizza is disgusting.

      actually, it’s the same product at a kosher Dunkin Doughnuts and a non-kosher one.  And if you don’t like it, don’t go there. it’s really not a big deal.

      You are just sick. kosher dunkin donuts is exactly the sameas any other dunkin donuts, except for the bacon and cheese sandwhiches. And kosher pizza is great.

    Isin’t Benny’s a chain? I could have sworn there were two kosher Benny’s places in Midwood (one on Ave M).

      A friend on Facebook saw my comment and confirmed Benny’s is a chain though she’s not sure about the Sheepshead location it makes sense. They all use the same Benny’s font and are all Kosher.

      I decided to call the other two locations via their numbers on Yelp but after 2 minutes of ringing nobody picked up at either Midwood location. I’m not sure this bodes well for Benny’s unless there’s some holiday today.

        She struck again! Tonight is the last night of Shavout, Shavous? Shaveitus? Whatever. Anyway, tonight is the last night so I guess they’ll all be open tomorrow, at least until a few hours before Shabbos.

      Yes it is. But i think there are diffrent owners on j and m who broke away from the original which was on M.

    This place never had more than 5 costumers at a time, i walk by every afternoon/morning, its usually just the owner’s friends and/or family. a lot of them just sitting around unserved. plus all the holidays and sabbath every month, they were doomed to begin with

    I looked for that Bennys when I was in the hood for Waldbaums, and could never find it.
    I was a little puzzled by the location when I heard about it.
    FYI, there are two others in Midwood. Ave M and Ave J. Food is great there.

    And kosher Dunkin Donuts DO differ from the rest. They don’t carry everything, and if they offer bacon and sausage, it is vegetarian.

    I called up the other branch on ave M and they confirmed that Benny’s in sheepshead did close down. The food was pretty good but had a cheap owner who doesn’t know how to run a successful business.

       First of all if you call Dunkin Donuts headquarters you will find out that all the ingredients are the same for all stores and they’re all Kof K that’s why it can be kosher in the first place.  The kosher ones mereliy have a cert saying no pork here.  Pork:  the brain food responsible for the other idiot comments on this page, which are antisemitic and untrue.  BUt that’s Russians for ya.  High on vodka, speeding in cars, pushy, moronic…
