• Larisa and Tatyana Prikhodko, victims of a murder discovered Sunday night.

Police believe that Nikolai Rakossi is the man responsible for the slaying of Larisa Prikhodko, 27, and her mom Tatyana Prikhodko, 56, both discovered brutally murdered in an apartment at 2299 East 13th Street Sunday night. Detectives now believe Rakossi may be living it up in Russia.

As authorities piece together more details of the events surrounding the murder, they’ve come to believe Rakossi, a Russian national, boarded a flight back to his home country just moments before police discovered the scene – and he may escape prosecution.

The NYPD is working with the State Department and Russian officials to hunt down the international fugitive, but authorities are skeptical about his return.

“If he has money or influential ties there, he’s gone,” a law enforcement source told the Daily News. “They won’t send him back.”

Rakossi is described by authorities and the press as Tatyana Prikhodko’s live-in boyfriend, but some neighbors have told Sheepshead Bites he was her husband and step-father to Larisa.

Authorities believe the killings occurred Saturday afternoon or evening – more than a full day before they were discovered Sunday night. According to reports, Rakossi, a day laborer living legally on a permanent visa, and with no criminal record, stabbed the elder Prikhodko multiple times in the torso, neck and face in the couple’s bedroom. It’s still unclear what sparked the violence, but neighbors to the sixth floor apartment reported hearing an argument.

According to reports, Larisa, who lived three floors down, may have walked in during the murder or moments after, greeted by Rakossi’s blade. Her body was found by the front door, along with a knife. Two other bloodied knives were discovered in the dining room and kitchen.

“He cut them up pretty bad,” a source told the Daily News. “The apartment was a bloody mess, a lot of cuts and signs of a big struggle.”

Rakossi was caught on security video leaving the building with two suitcases at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Shortly before the police discovered the body the next day, Rakossi bought a one-way ticket to Moscow at Kennedy Airport. Surveillance video captured him “coolly” boarding the flight, according to the paper.

Police made the discovery after Larisa failed to pick up her 2-year-old son Sunday morning at his father’s nearby home. Felix Zeltser, the dad, went to the 61st Precinct stationhouse. Police checked Larisa’s apartment first, then left when they found nothing strange. But when they discovered Larisa’s mom also had missed shift at Brookdale Hospital, cops forced their way into Tatyana’s two-bedroom apartment, where they found Larisa at the front door.

Larisa worked in the maternity ward at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and her mother was a nurse at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn. The 2-year-old son remains in Zeltser’s custody.

alex is placing blame on the victims .. saying their own stupidity led to their demise .. he is comparing the bulchenko attack to this one .. in the former case, the daughter was sleeping with a scumbag, and in the latter case the mother was. i do NOT agree. just translating the above

Thank you for translating. Wow! This Alex guy is offensive. I wonder if he would blame the women if they were his mother/sister/wife/daughter?

sounds like he probably would…. what a douche.

there is also a derogatory reference to the ethnicity of the victims (Ukrainian)

          • Resident of Southern Bklyn

not exactly reference to the ethnicity of the victims, just not a nice way, a deragatory one, to refer to the victims home country – “bidlo” means more like redneck, rednecks from Ukraine.

Your an idiot you read the first article and all of a sudden you think you know everything…. Gelman didn’t have a GF he was a Stalker… and he kept trying to get in her pants, she refused several times, since he smoked a lot of Dust he probably became consumed by thoughts of her…. hense why what happend happened….

Also, it’ll be respectful if you keep the names of slain victims to a bare minimum.

Very disturbing story, what is wrong with all this men? Feel horrible for this poor women and baby boy. I hope he’ll be caught and electrocuted. Taxpayer’s money shouldn’t be wasted on his life in prison. And if not returned – worse for Russia to have more criminals on their streets.

I would say that Eastern European guys should be having trouble getting dates after all these murders….On a more serious note, I just hope they can extradite the guy, I would think the Russians wouldn’t want him living it up in their country. He deserves to fry.

      • Barkingspider7

I certainly hope that Russia would not harbor a murderer – something has to be done here. This just can’t keep happening.

That security camera’s footage is the last we will ever see of Mr. Rakossi.

How do you compare a billionaire arms dealer to a random day laborer?

            • levp

              Not your average day laborer.

              Please see:

“The fugitive suspect in a grisly Brooklyn double-murder was a Russian “Rambo” who did tours of duty with Army special operations around the globe, a friend said Tuesday.
“As far as soldiers go, he was the elite of the elite,” said Rustam Zaripon, manager of the Russian Baths in Brooklyn and a friend of escaped suspect Nikolai Rakossi.
              [...]
“Rakossi, a day laborer, made his money by buying, renovating and flipping old apartments, Zaripon said. He wrote poetry and played chess.
              [...]
The manager said that Rakossi also maintained a home outside of Moscow – a possible hideaway once the Russian national arrived in his homeland.”

            • Local Broker

Oh yeah now it makes sense because the manager of the russian baths said so. I dont care if the guy actually is Rambo your comparison Bout is way off thats all im saying.

            • levp

I never trusted Russian government when it was a Soviet government, and what I am saying is nothing from recent history makes me trust them any more than I did before.

Levp, you are one of a kind. Wish there were more of you.

    • Resident of Southern Brooklyn

They will most likely not extradite the suspect; however, spending time in a Russian jail is no joke; most prisoners have TB, very bad conditions, etc.
Hope he rots in whatever jail for the remainder of his miserable life.

Is there no photo of this creep?

      • Anonymous

why? you want to go get him?

    • Orante

nobody gonna find Rakossi in Russia,he has different last name there. He changed his last name in US….so he’s gone …

      • Anonymous

        you have proof of this?

    • Vicka

I think the whole talk of Rakossi being a russian rambo is ridiculous. you know how many russian middle aged men talk about how they were heroes in the army? or how they were big shots in the party? give me a break. just a bunch of men talking in the banya after vodka, pretending to be big shots. please. i hope they can extradite him and he rots in jail until its his time to go to hell where a special place is being saved just for him.

      • Vicka

big powerful man he was killing two defensless unarmed women one after another. wow, yeah, it really takes rambo to do that.

      • BayResident

That was my initial reaction to that story as well. While I’m sure that it is entirly likely that this story is true, I have talked to many a Russian man who was “Spetznaz” and the greatest war hero of all time.

      • Anonymous

Yea, Banya talk is full of crap, if he was such a rambo he would never be let in to USA simply because of his military service in such places as Nam.

Besides that, bad news Vicka, there is no extradition agreement between Russia and USA and after what happened with all the Victor Bout shit, Russia will never extradite anyone to US.

On the bright note, they will probably catch him as unbelievable as it sounds and give him like 5 years or so. It will be up to the local “zeks” to administer the punishment.

    • Go home

Constant killings, fights and stabbings all involving Russian immigrants. Hmm.

      • Anonymous

lol, I like your comment and your nickname. “constant killings” really? Why dont you tell us your ethnicity and background and I’m sure we will dig up couple of murders and killing of our own.
