tzar restaurant brooklyn sheepshead bay

We got a whole bunch of calls and e-mails last week about the new signage at the restaurant formerly known as New York Steak House. The establishment is now known as Tzar Restaurant (2007 Emmons Avenue).

We think it’s the same owners, but we hope to find out more this week and fill you in on what’s going on. If you know anything, feel free to fill us in!

F*** same shit, same location, same owner, different name! Fool things that if he changes name to his shithole people will start going there.

    • Moin

Did you go there to c the changes that were made? No? So go first then criticize.
They have totally new management and waiters. I guess a new cook too.
So, before saying negative things, check it out first.

i had been there; and will never come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the New York Steak House filed for bankruptcy, then opened under a new name.

I saw the sign, but assumed it had been there for some time, since I haven’t been there in ages.

Wow… reading some of the reviews from long-time posters I’m shocked at their experiences. I’ve only had good ones, but then I never did the evening except once at that was still good service. All the other times I went was in the afternoon.

Yep, same exact place and menu…I think Tzar is just their DBA because if you go to their website (http://www.mondex.justfreemind.com/res/) you can see that the site for Tzar and for NY Steak House are almost identical….this might be a ploy to lure in more customers.

By the way, Ned, did you see that Lara has a new name “Deniz”…I wonder if this is a similar move to get more customer in the door

I’m having déjà vu. I could have sworn that this place had been called Tzar before it was New York Steak House.

i am with you on that one.

hes just a partner im sure theyre aware of the complaints and the main guys wife calls all the shots thats why everything sucks…im aware. i dont even go there

  • margarita

it is not even funny.i asked a waitress about meal details she said i don’t know, two hours for stake i wait(i thought they are killing a cow),next day all my guests (8) got a stomach upset including me ,they charged us for 2meals which were not ordered

    • Anonymous

      Wait, What?

      • margarita

to be exact ,we did place that two orders and don’t pay attention they never bring it to us that order, however they didn’t forgot to bill us .What i can say, they maybe thinking fancy restaurant, table cover with golden string(which is not appropriate because those string got to my plate, for a second i thought it was hair ),done deal to be in business.

        • Shuler

You are lying your S off. There are no golden strings on the cover. I was there, it’s very nice. This is called an overlay, and it’s a whole piece. Secondary, there are no waitresses in the restaurant, only guys. So, stop this BS. I was in and out in one and a half hour and had all my meal on time and good.

          • http://www.flickr.com/knightmare6 Knightmare6

Don’t know about that person’s experience, but I have had two waitresses there in the past when it was New York Steak House. Only reason I recall is because I thought they were both cute as they were taking my table’s orders (two different trips)

            :)

          • TG9251

i’m a very busy person to just BS,IF IT WAS NOT AN A BAD EXPERIENCE.

I had one of the worst dinning experiences in New York Steak House. I had to wine and dine foreign clients on Christmas Eve in Brooklyn few years back. As one can imagine most restaurants are closed on that night but not New York Steak House. I called 2 days ahead, asked if they were opened and made reservations. I also made sure to mention that this is very important dinner and I need everything to be tiptop. I was assured they can more than handle this kind of dinner.
Let me put it this way: After switching 3 waiters because first one was dead drunk, second was incompetent and 3 just didn’t know what he was doing we ended up with half, yes half of our orders screwed up, my main course never came. 3 out of 5 main dishes were cold. Btw it took 2 hours between appetizers and main course. One of the clients got so disgusted with service that he even pointed out that the wine was served wrong, the waiter just shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
You have no idea how much New York Steak House embarrassed me that night. Never ever again did I or will I dine in that establishment. Did I mention that the prices in that place are of 4 star restaurant yet the service and food is not even worth 1 star.
I swear I was better off taking them to Clemente’s even though I’m pretty sure it is closed on Christmas.

    • Fitzgerald

I just think your bullshitting. your probably a rival restaurant next to theirs and just want to give bad reviews.

      • Faba

I wish I was bullshitting and I wish I own a restaurant. I love to cook.

      • MARGARITA

THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT IF IT IS A TRUE ,GO FOR PARTY THERE AND YOU WILL SEE ALL THIS IS TRUE.

    • Barkingspider7

This sounds right – bad, bad restaurant, bad, bad service

  • Cabbie

I’m with Faba. This place is the worst steak-house I’ve been to in the world. I ate there once, and would never go back. I wouldn’t serve their steak to my dog!

    • Awewe

I’ve been there, it’s not the steak, it’s the service that is terrible. Russian people just can’t provide good service. This is basically just another russian establishment but they also serve steak. The steak itself is average but the service is subpar. Waiters don’t know what they are doing and are just downright nasty.

  • C3newyork

DOES ANYONE NO WHY the restaurant next door uses the TF gang logo(together forever)?are they owned by the oldschool crew or is it just a coincidence?sorry about getting off subject

    • Barkingspider7

Where did you see that logo? I never noticed

      • C3newyork

next sign over to the right, its all over the doors also

        • Barkingspider7

          I have to look

        • HEY BOO

NY steak house/TZAR and fusion are the same owner

    • Local Broker

I dont know the answer to that but its interesting because the F on their sign looks like the TF logo.

      • Barkingspider7

Could this be because Tzar and Fusion are owned by the same people? T for Tsar and F for Fusion? Maybe that is the name of their corporation.

      • GUEST

I LIVE ON EMMONS ,YES FUSION OLD NY STAKE ,TSAR NOW THE SAME SHIT.

    • Root

I thought about that when it opened up like 5 years ago, it had the TF sign. thats some old school shit. but I think its just the stupid font that they used to design that banner, it looks that way but I doubt it has any affiliations with those folks who are either dead or in jail.

    • Barkingspider7

      Wheelers rules!

    • Anonymous

wow that’s another great alternative. Been there 3 times. Food is ok.. .. OK nothing else … and…… … .. that’s it. At all other times.. drunks are watching baseball.

        Who you callin’ a drunk?

      • Faba

Going to Wheelers because of the food is like going to hooker for cuddling. Sure you can get that from her but that’s not why you pay her in the first place.
Walk in, grab a beer, try not to yell “Fuck you Phillies, you short dick faggots” too much.

  • Reddior

Uh I came in there It def looks different but the menu for banquet wasn’t that good they didn’t have much on it and for that price id rather go somewhere else.

  • Guest

I have been unfortunate enough to dine at NY Stake House not once but twice. First time was a few years ago, the service was decent, the food was subpar. Last November i was invited to NYSH for dinner. The service was fine, they didn’t mess up our orders and were very nice, but the food….i’ve never tasted a such a horrible steak, i only took a few bites. The rest of the people at my people didn’t finish any of their food as well. And the bill was equivalent to a nice steak house in the city.
Never again, doesn’t matter how many times they change the name of the restaurant.

  • Milenkon

People , why are you being so mean? This is a new restaurant with the same owners but different management, I know that for a fact, because I am the manager. Yes, there was complains , that is why the owners hire a new management wit a lot of experience in this business. The decor has been change, all new watering staff, new chef , new menu, new entertainment. They are trying very hard to bring something new and interesting to the area, why all of you being so negative and mean? Why all of you critics try to create something on your own?
Please stop this! We are trying too hard, if you don’t like the owners think about people who works there and making some money to feed their families, at least these owners have jobs for people!

    • Anonymous

All they bring is a fresh supplies of J1′s to have “fu..n ” with. Jobs for who? for Students that come and stay here illegally? waiting for the prince charming on m6? So she can spread them and stay here? lol Jobs… lol

New and interesting…. what a joker.

    • margarita

because we are working too hard ,and nobody wants to just waist money for trash

    • Faba

Because you can’t screw up so much and not even apologize. Owners provide jobs for people? Is that your argument?
Have pride in what you do and hire people who take pride in what they do, even if that means paying more than everyone else does.
Screwing up is not a problem, never correcting the problem is. Don’t forget you are in service business. You have to accommodate me not other way around. I personally do not mind paying higher prices but you must give me topnotch everything, service and food.

    • E0905d

Not hard enough. Decor is fine and music is OK. But the service!!!!!!!!!!! The worst I’ve seen anywhere. We had a party on Saturday: food was OK, portions are too small but the “service”: they told us that we didn’t tip them enough!!!!!!!!!!!! All despite charging us 18% service charge and us giving $85.00 extra. She (our waiter) said that we need to tip kitchen staff and other personnel as well.

    • bigtime

admitting that your “trying hard” instead of actually making it the best is your first mistake. ill be there tonight for a party and after reading the reviews of many i’m not so excited anymore but will post afterwards.

    • Nevergoingever

I called recently to make a reservation in the afternoon.  The man on the phone said “Hurry up – I’m busy!” He never asked for my name and just hung up. This was a Tuesday night…

      “Great Job!”

  • Llallmil

If this is the same owner I would never ever go there again. It used to be a ‘Steak House’ and the owner is a horriable person who has no idea how to talk to customers.
He probably think this is Moscow because his attitude remained me the old country’s
terriable experience. He better learn from other places near by how to treat your customers.

  • LK

Just came back from this place, were supposed to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Well, it didn’t exactly go as planned…my girlfriend never got served her meal. I mean didn’t get it at all. The staff did absolutely nothing to make it right. By the time we were leaving they just said it’s ready, but we don’t have to charge you if you don’t want it anymore. They also burned my steak, but that’s another matter. Hands down the worst “steakhouse” I’ve been to, and it’s not like it’s cheap. You get better service at the apple bee’s down the street.

  • Wokzal

if you want to ruin your party – this is the place. the food and cook is totally f–dup. i choose french menu for $115, and get mash potato, nasty duck they called – goose, but nightmare comes with the band where pretty old gal uses stage as of her play ground to demonstrat her never bloomed talant. brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. never need to say mngmnt will cheat you on amount of cakes, of drinks they promised but substitute for chipest one, terrible …

  • E0905d

Awful service, portions are too small, absolutely not worth the money

I was there Saturday October 8th 2011. This place is awful, the singers belong singing for a nursing home on Thursday afternoons. They were horrible I would rather listen to elevator music. The food was old, rotten, nasty. I would rather eat at a homeless mission then to ever eat here again. I felt like I was getting robbed at gunpoint by the manager and his waiters. If the owners are reading this throw everyone out of this dump, and stop thinking people are stupid and trying to rip us off.

    DON’T EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!!

As a rule we do not like to go to Russian restaurants for a number of
    reasons:                              They
are usually very noisy that you can not hear your own voice. The “service”  that after piling up food on your narrow table,
if you need a napkin, spoon, more bread or water – there is nobody to be found!
As for food – it takes too long to get it, it is never the right temperature and
presentation is much to be desired!

    So… you would
think why to go to a Russian Overpriced Underserved Restaurant?!  I have just an answer – to be treated like a TZAR!

    Plans were
made a couple of weeks ago and after spending time on internet, talking to friends
and family and visiting to see a few places in Brooklyn and Manhattan we decided
to pay a visit to the restaurant “TZAR”. We were greeted by a friendly, attentive,
courteous and knowledgeable manager, David who in a most detailed and patient
way explained to us how they can accommodate us and what we need to know about
their food choices, prices and sitting arrangement.  He made us feel comfortable with all his
answers and how he came across. David was an aristocratically sincere and accommodating
person, so we made reservation with the small deposit for my Mother’s Birthday
celebration that just took place on Saturday Nov 5th.

    Our family
members that had attended this celebration live in all different areas:  Manhattan, New Jersey, White Planes, Greenwich
Connecticut, Long Island and even Boynton Beach, Florida. We all were very pleasantly
    surprised!

    The ambiance
of the restaurant was “Neoclassic” design very chic. Warm colors and soft
fabrics made it cozy and comfortable. The place was clean and odor free of any
orders due to excellent ventilation. There was a very pleasant sound of the saxophone
that added a touch of elegance and high class to the splendid surroundings.
There was on our table a candelabra with the inviting glow on a wide table that had plenty of
room for the food, drinks, flowers and numerous settings. David greeted us with
the friendly happy smile and brought us to our table asking us if the
temperature was comfortable or maybe we would like it to be warmer. Waiters started
to bring preordered FRESH and well presented appetizers! Finally all the guests
arrived! Everybody was very complimentary of the abundant and scrumptious Hors d’oeuvres.
A number of waiters were constantly around and yet very low key to accommodate our
guests. As we had a lot to talk about it was easy to hear each person even if
they sat at the other end of the table. Shortly we have placed orders for soups
and main courses everybody had something different. The food arrived within a respectful
25 minutes and all at the same time for all 10 people. It was hot, made to
exact specifications of each guest, look very well presented and portions were
very generous. I have to say – I was very impressed! The waiters and David
himself came up a number of times to make sure that we all were happy with everything.
“TZAR” made our evening – a most wonderful
experience ever! We will be back!

    Gathering
different generations around the table is – PRICELESS!

After reading negative comment about Tzar Restaurant I tried to discourage my cousin from celebrating birthday at this place.
But she already made a reservation for the party of 10 and did not want to change it.
I was pleasantly surprised from the moment of entering the restaurant.
Opulent  décor, welcoming atmosphere, superb service,  but on top of  all – delicious and generous portions.
We had terrific time and I apologized to my cousin for urging her to cancel this reservation.
We will definitely be back for another special occasion.
    I
am glad that the management took criticism from previous patron
seriously and improved service and menu to perfection. Thank you.

my experience is terrible, if u want to ruin yor party – this is the besr place, food – i ordered the most expensive french menu – i got mash potato, some yaki fish cutlet from local supermarket, they tried not to give my full order, they switched expensive vodka for chipper one without even telling about. most terrible was the singer – old lady taking revenge for all her years as a performer, using stage as her personal playground, pretending to be gifted. this place just ripp u off. never recomend to my freiends.

Great place, everything is nice and clean the food was great and I loved the live piano music, waitress was nice.

  • Raistlin616

Was invited as a guest to dine here.  First of all it was freezing in the place. NO HEAT. It took forever to get my meal.  Because it was so cold in  there my food was ice cold in a few minutes after it was served.  I dont recommend this place at all.

New York steak house tried to be like Peter Lugers but it failed and ended up being on the same level as outback steakhouse, if not worse….they changed their name but it is still the same crap.

06/2012 it was bad idea to choose this “restoran” for celebration very important event of our frend’s  life: meal is poor and less then half of ordered according to banquet menu. very sad that such kind of place is still on business. People! do not go there, any chinese buffet is much more better and tastfull
