Facebook fan Frances P. got this shot of plows working on her street yesterday.

The Sanitation Department is aiming to clear most or all of the side streets in Community Board 15 by midnight tonight, according to the board’s chairperson Theresa Scavo.

Scores of streets in the area remain unplowed as of noon today, with some larger roadways including Gravesend Neck Road and Avenue W choked by the aftermath of the weekend’s blizzard. Scavo said Sanitation was working to clear those roads and many of the numbered “East” streets during the day, and hope to have them and the “West” streets ready for tomorrow morning’s commute.

Despite the agency’s promise, Scavo shared harsh words for the city’s sluggish reaction to clearing Southern Brooklyn, calling the situation “ludicrous.”

“The snow stopped Monday morning and this is Wednesday. I don’t ever remember a side street being blocked two days after a snow storm,” she said. “There is a law on the books that four hours after the snow stops falling you have to clean in front of your home. What about the city?”

In addition to the side streets, Scavo pointed out that Kings Highway still has unplowed sections, and just about all of the area’s municipal parking lots have yet to be cleared for commuters and shoppers.

I’ve got an abandoned city bus STILL at my intersection of West 5th street & Neptune ave (out here in Coney Island) and it continues to hamper pedestrians, many of them elderly) and motorists alike.
Some of the local buildings who own or rent small snow plows actually went above & beyond and started plowing city sidewalks and drive-ways because they were just so treacherous to walk (let alone try to drive across.) I have pics of that bus. I cannot believe it is still just sitting there!

i know, i’ve seen the bus. isnt it amazing, 3 days after the snow and the bus is still there? i’ve been thru many blizzards by now, and this is a first: buses stranded at intersections 3 days after the snow. It’s a national embarrassment.

    I call bullshit!
I just got home and lucked out getting a spot on my block from where someone else had just left, as the spot I had this morning was taken, that’s normal in Brooklyn, but the streets are far from being clear. We have some very narrow, barely passable paths cleared out on most side streets in Gravesend, but the delivery trucks up and down the Avenues isn’t helping matters. I know they don’t have much of a choice, and businesses need those deliveries, but it’s killing us as far as traffic and parking.
There are huge piles, like small mountains, of snow at many corners. We really need FEL’s to put all of it into haulers to be dumped somewhere else, like some parks and empty lots maybe.
I don’t know that I would consider all streets cleared by midnight, possibly small paths cleared on every street, but not really cleared.

East 23 btwn Ave V and W has just been plowed…..they had one truck come down and do nothing but drive through the big mounds….then had a double plow looking thing come down that buried in cars on both sides of the street…then had a snow plow piling snow in banks blocking potential parking spots.

Happy they finally came, but still no excuse…..

We’re still missing much of the right lane throughout the Belt Pkwy between the Gowanus/BQE and Knapp, and on ramps are dangerously blocked views of oncoming cars that stick out into the right lane tempting an accident.

I hope tomorrow’s commute is easier than today’s was. It was just as bad in Staten Island though, up until the Outerbridge at which point, it’s all nice and clear.

East 14th by Kings Highway is finally getting plowed as of 5:20am. About time.
