Serious Eats included both Roll-N-Roaster’s (2901 Emmons Avenue) and Brennan & Carr’s (3432 Nostrand Avenue) roast beef sandwiches in their roundup of the city’s 26 best sandwiches.

Our reaction? Duh.

For years, the duo have been duking it out for the title of Best Roast Beef Sandwich, and are regularly highlighted as amongst the top in the city.

But I’m getting tired of it. Serious Eats’ list was created for that holiest of holidays: National Sandwich Day. Having two local places included in the list is an honor – no doubt – but I want to start hearing about Sheepshead Bay’s other great sandwiches.

How about a hot sub from Bassett Deli (1404 Avenue X)? A lamb gyro from Anatolian Gyro Restaurant (1605 Sheepshead Bay Road)? A chicken sandwich on a sweet bun from one of the Chinese bakeries?

How ’bout a new place, one no one’s heard about, your secret go-to joint during a lunch break?

National Sandwich Day may have passed, but help us make a belated list of the must-try sandwiches in Sheepshead Bay. Where do you eat?

G & S Salumeria & Pork Store 2611 Avenue U. Fresh cooked Roast Beef, with fresh mozzerella and gravy, every Thursday. Get there early…they usually sell out before noon. If they are sold out, get the chicken parm hero. They make amazing sandwiches there.

You know, my birthday was yesterday and I ended up going to both Roll N Roaster (I only went for a milkshake and to spin the wheel) and Brennan and Carr… Not gonna lie, B&C is definitely the better of the two in terms of sandwiches, but RnR has them topped in terms of customer service and variety.
But UGH the sandwiches at Brennan and Carr are to die for.

you people are blind. Try ordering one time by the window of Brenn & Carr, Me and my wife saw the dude touching everything the cheese, the meat, the bread all with his bare hands that he was wiping on his dirty cloth which was around his waist, i honestly don’t know how they passed inspection, that place is Dirtier the a hookers crotch.

Unless you like your food handled like that by all means.

I prefer Brennan and Carrs roast beef, but I love R&R’s pizza and the corn fritters.

Both restaurants have their amazing products, and their OK’s

Love the corn fritters, but I prefer to get them at Chicken Masters (they call them corn nuggets), since the portion size is larger for the price, but R&R is open later.

Awful picture. That roast beef sandwich doesn’t look at all appetizing to me.

Much love to Bassett’s! I just wish they had meatloaf more often! Oh, and later hours. I’m usually only able to swing by on weekends or when I take the day off and I’m home.I love Brennan & Carr’s, but I need to prepare myself for their sandwiches, as my beef allergy always acts up afterwards (possibly due to the broth), but I like Roll & Roaster’s too, but I prefer the soggy roll over the dry roll. I often get a side of gravy per R&R roast beef sandwich.I also like the small Chinese bakeries (like the one on Sheepshead Bay (btwn 15 & 16th) and the one on Gravesend Neck Road (btwn 14th & 15th)). I like the custard-filled buns with sweet topping, steamed Chinese sausage bun and the shredded fried pork buns, as well as the traditional steamed roast pork buns. Also a late-night shout-out to the 24-hour deli on Coney Island Avenue, right off of Avenue Z (btwn Y & Z), by the bus stop. They’ve satisfied my hunger many times in the early hours of morning when I get back in the area from Manhattan and I didn’t feel like driving up to the deli on Knapp Street (love their chunky chicken salad!) by the movie theater.

Everytime I come in from California I go to R & R. Don’t know nothin’ about B & C or wherever….who cares!! R & R has the BEST roast beef sandwiches and french fries with cheese….yum!!!! (I’m a vegetarian and this is the one time I will eat red meat)
I wonder if they would deliver?

i can not believe that when you purchase Roll N Roaster coins you do not reiceve  any change unless you use the full value. when purchasing they do not explain it   on 4/22/11 i placed an order   my order came to $31.63 i gave the cashier $35.oo in their coins and he told me that they do not give back change on coins   well when they were purchased they did’nt tell you that. if you paid 35.00 you should get$35.00 worth or your change back   i will never buy anyone thier gift coins again  and trust me i have alot of friends

you know, i don’t want to defend them or anything but, i am sure they won’t be hurting, see what they did was smart, they bought commercial time during Jersey Shore.  Sooo the 20 friends you have believe me don’t really hurt them in any way.

on a lighter note.  I agree with you.
