A neighbor captured this video of the Midwood fire last night that claimed the life of a rabbi’s eight-year-old son, Avigdor Krasny, at 1118 Avenue P, near East 12th Street.

Five other children were ultimately saved by their father, who moved swiftly to escort them out of the house. Still, all five were hospitalized, including a one-year-old in critical condition. Four firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

Ceremonial candles could be seen burning not on a table in the home just before the blaze, a neighbor told NY1.

I dont think you can praise firefighters often enough. About a decade ago I was in manhattan beach when I witnessed a house in a similar situation as this. The smells, the noises, the crashing glass, the strobes of the trucks, and the firefighters running into the house, it was so dramatic. My prayers are with this family.

There is no doubt in my mind after seeing this the fearless heroism of New York’s firefighters. You might be able to make out while they are fighting the blaze from above in the cherry picker, they were also rushing in to the front of the house through the third floor landing.
