Jonathan's Bakery in Sheepshead Bay

Commuters heading to work  from the Sheepshead Bay Road train station yesterday morning probably walked right past Dish D’lish, the bagel store that replaced Bagel Stop back in January. When they went home at the end of the day, the store was sporting a new name: Jonathan’s Bakery.

The owner told Sheepshead Bites that he is recalibrating the business to focus more on the baked goods they’ve been serving up alongside their bagels and deli sandwiches. He didn’t want to reveal too much just yet, but he said some more changes are still to come. And if you’re wondering where the name came from, Jonathan is his son.

Here’s the storefront, photographed around noon:

And here it is back when they first got their sign in February:

First Bagel Stop, then Dish D'lish, now Jonathan's Bakery? I enjoyed them the most during the Bagel Stop days, then they fired almost the whole crew and changed the name to Dish D'lish and I stopped going.

Bagel Stop closed up totally. The present operation has no connection to it in any form, and hasn't since it opened in January.

I went in there recently looking for bagels and found none. I wish they would start baking bagels again.

Lisanne's correct. The change from Bagel Stop to Dish D'lish was a change in ownership. Jonathan's is now the same owner as Dish D'lish, which no longer exists. The definition of a “good bagel” is always up for debate – but the cookies and some of the other non-deli goods they sold were very good. Maybe you should give them a shot again.

Just checked in with the owner. They still sell bagels and have no plan to stop with their bagel/deli offerings. The new name is to focus on their bakery line expansion, which will now dominate the offerings as they go forward.

    Forget Babel Boy –
Nobody can beat Jonathan's Bakery's cookies and pastries. They made custom chocolate, strawberry birthday cake for us, everybody loved it!

I made a stop there before work today and asked someone that looked like a manager, he said that Bagel Stop changed owners 6 months before the name change to Dish D'lish. As I remember the original guys were there until maybe a week or two after the name changed to Dish D'lish. But the place definitely looks a lot better now than during the Bagel Stop days.

i got coffee there this morning and the dude at the cash register was showing pictures of special occasion cakes that they bake to a customer. guess they want to make the whole bakery thing legit. although, they won me over with chocolate almond coffee.

Guess I was in a rush and just missed seeing them. My bad!

Bagel Stop looked dirty to me. The bagels were good but I still thought Bagel Boy's were better.

I haven't been to this place yet (Dish D'lish or Jonathan's Bakery… whatever) but I'll check it out. I hope Jonathan's Bakery will be a better and cheaper alternative to Bagel Boy.

Yes, the prices are definitely better. I go there for breakfast, their egg sandwiches seem to have more flavor and meat in it. They also have incredible coffee.

Jonathan’s Bakery is a nice spot, all of the employees are very courteous and helpful. The girl who worked in the mornings during the summer was great, and the guy making sandwiches was great too. But for some reason that girl is gone, and the new girl working the register can’t seem to catch a break from what looks like the new manager. The owner should be on the lookout for workplace harassment lawsuits if that guy continues to work there. I don’t know many employees who could tolerate the sort of treatment I witnessed. I met the owner and he seems like a really nice young man, I would hate to see his business brought down by this guy.

Strange, I was there yesterday and the place doesn’t have any managers. There has to be a mistake. Agreed, the owner is a nice guy, he is always so accomodating. The food is great, the service is amazing. The old girl at the register has departed to Israel to study abroad.

That’s good, perhaps they realized quickly that this guy was no good. Good luck to that girl studying abroad.
