If anyone has information about the perpetrator of this, please call the police. We’ve heard the attack was on Avenue U. Though we all sometimes have problems with our neighbors and their dogs (and their poop), this type of reaction is plainly sociopathic. Help get him off of our streets!

From the Daily News:

A Brooklyn man was doused with acid because his dog barked at someone on the street, police said Thursday.

Igor Dubrovinsky, 29, was at Staten Island University Hospital with burns to his neck, hands and face the Wednesday confrontation. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Dubrovinsky was walking the dog around the corner from his Sheepshead Bay home when he passed a man wearing all black.

“The dog starting barking at him,” said a source. “I guess the guy got upset.”

He flung the acid at Dubrovinsky and fled. The dog was not harmed, police said.

No one has been arrested.

Why is someone walking around with acid readily available? It sounds like a person looking for a reason to use it.

    I'll second that.

  9. applegreenon 05 Mar 2010 at 2:06 am

well, thats why the dog was barking. i dont know bout anyone else on here, but when my dog would start barking at someone, its not because she had nothing better to do, its because she sensed something odd. maybe the smell of the acid was bothering the dog, who knows. poor man, glad it wasnt worse.

  10. Knightmare6on 05 Mar 2010 at 2:43 am

Sorry to hear the guy was attacked, but something's wrong with this story… Staten Island University Hospital? Why was he taken to Staten Island for acid burns? I mean I know Coney Island Hospital had a bad rep, but it's not that bad… anymore…

I agree on the dog probably barking because it sensed danger, probably from smelling whatever chemical the psycho was carrying.

Let me ask you all this question..what if this guy had release his dog in order to catch this scumbag. Which i think 100% is the right thing to do in this case. Would this owner get in trouble with bull shit laws that we have in NYC. thanks

  12. Big Yellow Taxion 05 Mar 2010 at 5:36 am

I agree. Maybe the guy in black was a hired thug, and it was more of a 'hit'.

  13. Shockedon 05 Mar 2010 at 6:12 am

He was taken to Staten Island because that hospital has an excellent center for burn victims. And yes, dogs tend to sense some things that we as humans cannot- and perhaps, that is what happened. Who ever this “person” was who threw the acid…..deserves to be dipped in acid himself and experience the excruciating pain that his victim felt…and is still feeling…and will feel for the rest of his life, as he will undoubtedly have scars- forever.

i live around the corner from this – this happened on ocean and u- infront of penthouse. i didnt even know his name but i knew igor and his dog for 2 years – since it was a little pup – he is nice – always a smile and a how are ya, the pup – comes up to ya and wants to lick and smell you, it was always a pleasure to see them. i cant think of a bad word to say other then i didnt know him better. he cleans up after the dog – the dog is well kept – and he is nice. what else do u want from a good neighbor who lives around the corner.

its sickening to know this happened – when i heard it happened i was told it was to a younger guy – around my age – i thought of him – as a guy from the area – i liked him bc he watched out for people like i do – i hopped it wasnt him when i heard abotu this and was saddend to learn it was him when i googled his name after reading the daily news and seeing his picture.

and i belive he was taken to staten island bc its a top notch burn unit and its closer then cornell in the city. and they need to get the acid out of his skin- unlike a fire where the damage stops when the fire is out – the acid could get into his blood and what not – tomorrow i will take a photo of the sidewalk and send it in to you guys here – its got white and yellow all over it – looks like the acid u use to clean concrete with – just all over the place. its even on the pole for the parking meter…

my prayers to you igor, hope to see you walkin the dog soon. and i pray they catch this guy soon..

to the comment about if he let the dog loose to catch the guy- this dog in no way is a killer – its a puggel, and a very sweet one also

  15. Knightmare6on 05 Mar 2010 at 2:48 pm

Thanks for the info on the Staten Island University Hospital burn unit. I thought all hospitals now had the ability to at least do something when it came to chemical burns, especially acid, but I guess not. Learn something new everyday :)

And he would be in the right if the dog attacked the assailant, something I'm sure most juries would agree.

  16. Ned Berkeon 05 Mar 2010 at 3:02 pm

I agree he's a “fuckin moron.” But being a moron isn't grounds for deletion. Sometimes we need the reminder that morons abound in Sheepshead Bay, and also that people who aren't morons (ie. you) have the good sense to call them out on their idiocy.

  17. BakiShamilon 05 Mar 2010 at 6:15 pm

@randyice thanks for your reply to my question. I understand that dog is very nice dog and not violent. This is my scenario …if it was me I would let my dog go off the leash in order to catch that asshole. Mind you i dont have a dog, I wish I did but i cant afford it. From your description of a owner….this dog owner is very nice guy that also cleans after his dog….i wish it happen to asshole that dont clean after their dog.

  18. Lisanne!on 05 Mar 2010 at 6:23 pm

    That does make sense.

  19. T Alamon 05 Mar 2010 at 8:28 pm

Incredible – this is awful. Yet another excuse to use an extreme form of violence. Is there any news of this gentleman's state? Acid Survivors Trust International campaigns about the nature and seriousness of acid attacks. We believe in the eradication of acid violence and rebuilding of lives of survivors. http://www.acidviolence.org

ah shut up. you're the idiot who always don't pick up after your dog. i laugh at you biatch

  21. Lisanne!on 06 Mar 2010 at 1:39 am

    Make that two “fuckin' morons”.

  22. Lisanne!on 06 Mar 2010 at 1:51 am

Too bad the dog didn't have strong attack instincts. Some dogs would have gone ballistic on this guy as soon as the acid was thrown. I don't think a jury would have convicted the owner of any malfeasance, and the dog would not be subjected to any “branding” as a dangerous animal.

  23. Local Brokeron 06 Mar 2010 at 4:55 am

was there a reply to my post by some idiot that i didn't get a chance to see?

  24. Stop Dog Barkingon 15 Mar 2010 at 4:48 am

How sad! A dog barking does not warrant this type of attack on a fellow human being. Anyone heard a thing about the victim's recovery? I hope the attacker's been caught and dealt with

This era dogs are used as passive-aggressive weapons: what bullets are to guns, barking is to dogs. Barking kills–a slow, painful death of a million bee stings. Communities should focus on the root cause of the conflict between barking dog and innocent human: the barking is the root cause. It's the BARKING that's the source of the conflict. The source of the conflict is not the barking-sufferer's REACTION to barking, whatever that reaction may be. Chronic barking is molestation. The party at fault is the household with the barker(s). It doesn't matter what the sufferer-of-barking does to try to get the barking to stop–they feel desperate because they're not getting support from the outlying community to get the barking stopped. I'm not talking about partial-barking stopped–I mean 100%-barking stopped. The barking-sufferer has a right to enjoy her patch of real estate unmolested by barking. The barker needs to get gone.

In a conflict between one person and a dog, the human should win out every time. Human rights trump dog rights. Who is it that pays the mortgage or rent? Not dogs. Why do we as society allow dogs to have more rights than people? Barking is a serious offense: barking makes people–literally–insane. Chronic barking causes the barking-sufferer to not be able to meet his obligations in paying the mortgage or rent and put food on the table. People, obtaining dogs, who like to “have their own petty egos petted,” are clueless as to what it takes to truly care for a dog. Being the guardian of a dog is a lifelong commitment–it is similar as caring for a human infant–and dogs cost money. Leaving dog(s) in a yard unattended and unloved is a hazard to anyone who is not the owner and who is within earshot of the barking. A barker is a menace. A barker is a health hazard. A barker is an “ignored” dog–it's time we see chronic barking for what it is: animal neglect. Things have to be done, by the community, on behalf of the barking-sufferer, in its laws, fines, punishments and jail-time.

Communities should give power to law enforcement to seize yard barkers without the dog owner's knowledge, impound the dog(s). Or 6 months in jail. Or a US$1,000 (GBP£700) fine. If I had my wish, the dog would be euthanized within 24 hours.

Dog-haters are made, not born. Residents become hostile after years of their communities having more sympathy for barkers than for barking-sufferers, communities who spit on human need for peace and quiet where they live. Having dogs growing up, I used to like dogs. No more. Barkers are REALLY, REALLY bad public-relations for canines in general. Barking gives the whole canine species a bad name. Responsible dog owners should pressure “arrant dog owners who condone chronic barking” to STOP THE BARKING.

You know, how would you feel if you went to go poop in your own toilet, the next-door neighbor's dog heard you from outside, barked continuously 5 feet from where you're doing your business? How would you feel if you put a dish in the microwave oven, the other next-door neighbor's dog heard you from outside, barked continuously 5 feet from where you're trying to eat a pleasant meal? How would you feel if the phone rings, you answer it, the next-door neighbor's dog heard you from outside, barked continuously 5 feet from where you're trying to have a conversation where you yell into the phone “I can't hear you. What'd you say?”? How would you feel if the only place you could sleep was a closet floor on the other side of the house from the barker? And finally, how would you feel if this went on, day and night, for five years? Answer honestly, because you would not have had a good night's sleep in five years. How would YOU feel?

Dogs have no business around human dwelling areas. Dogs are “guests” and as such, must behave. If dogs don't behave, banish them. Dog be gone, or dog de-barked.

Mediation implies there is something to mediate, as if with chronic barking there is middle-ground or compromise. Sorry, but I’m not going to compromise my physical need for a safe and sane soundscape around my home. The dog leaves.

    Nobody likes “second-hand dog pollution.”

My neighbor has a Boston Terrier, everytime I am in my back yard it barks and pounces on the fence like it would attack and bite me. I am scared to death to go out in the yard anymore, I have talked with the neighbor twice about the dog but he does nothing. Would it help or hurt to spray water in his face (the dog) and how often. ????
