New Bagel Place Opens

When Bagel Stop closed down in December, we began wondering who would take up that prime real estate next to the train station. We didn’t have to wonder long, because it was just a two or so weeks until a new tenant opened shop.

Dish D’Lish opened without a sign, and they asked us not to report until it went up. Well, it went up this Sunday. So everyone welcome our newest bagel/deli/pastry place, which has some neato sandwiches you’ll be hearing about later.

For now, we look forward to what you have to say about the new store.

Food is good. Little pricier then Bagel Stop but not as bad as BB. Also the decor is all happy and bright so it gives a kick in the morning

if they are smart, they should attemp to do business by the volume and lower
    the prices.
look at the foot traffic in front of it. their only drawback is the lack of parking.

I actually have an idea for the owner that might help him drum up business. He should spend a few days giving away free coffee and bagle/muffin samples to people in line for the bus.

Eventually he should have a “runner” that goes up and down the line between buses and takes peoples coffee orders then runs them their coffee outside.

  • Dish D'Lish Owner – Alex

    Hello,
I am the new owner of Dish D'Lish and all of your comments are greatly appreciated and always welcomed. Our goal is to ensure that we provide our customers with the highest quality product (no preservatives, everything is made on premises) and the best service. We're always looking for new ways to improve our store with one thought in mind – happy customer.

We’re always looking to bring new products to our store and create a friendly atmosphere for everyone.
I love some of your comments & recommendations and want to tell you that we will give away free coffee this month, provide coupons & discounts for greater savings, give away free items to people at the bus stop (although, I tried to do this once, and not a single person took anything from me – so, I’ll wait until it warms up outside to have a cute girl in a mini skirt to duplicate the effort ).

We’re hired many consultants to provide us with the best bagel recipe and now, as I was told, we have the best bagels.

    Thank you,
    Alex

Do 99 cents lattes and you will steal a lot of people from DD. They are a good entry point to get people acclimated to your store and increase traffic and loyalty (marketing term is loss leader).

  • AlexDishDlishOwner

    Hi Alex,
I appreciate your comment and I think it's a valuable one. I just got another Latte machine yesterday, which I think will help us with the $0.99 Latte special.

I am currently working on designing flyers any preferences or ideas on what people want to save on? How much should a special be? I already have a special on my breakfast items from 5:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

    Thank you,
    Alex

The cost of milk/eggs/yeast/coffee is negligible compared to your fixed costs. I would think that the bulk of your costs are fixed and not variable (ex rent, salaries, utilities, insurance). Hence you are better off on concentrating on increasing your average receipt from each sale.

If you want to increase your average receipt, do combination specials. Ex. Buy 2 donuts + coffee, or sandwich + coffee, muffin + coffee, etc.

I stopped in for a salad during last weekend's monsoon. I was pleased to see 4 items included in the salad. THere was a sign above the salad station that stated $.75 for the first additional item, so I ordered feta cheese. When the counter guy told the register girl that the salad was $5.25 ($4 base price + $1.25 for add'l item) I pointed to the sign above him, and he rudely informed me that it was only certain items that were 75 cents more, other items were different prices. 50 cents isn't going to break me, but it was the attitude that they guy took with me when I pointed the sign out to him. I certainly understand that some things cost more than others, but it should be listed that way on the priceboard.

  • Ray Johnson

I agree with your comment and I hope that was a lot of feta cheese for that price.

I got some great ideas, but I'm charging for a consult.

i dotn know if im just too picky when it comes to ordering, but this place over and over again messes up my order. I liek the food and I like the prices. Most of all i like that they are located right by the train station, but i would also love to eat what I order. Am i the only one with this problem?

We went to Dish D'Lish and were amazed with the fresh food and service. The old place used to scary, the new owners made a complete turn-around. Definitely go back again.

    Hi,
We would surely like to know who was rude to our customer. We do not tolerate any rudeness in our place. For us, customer is #1. We’ve created a nice price sheet/salad grid which shows every single topping and it’s related cost (this sheet is on top of the glass above the salad bar and is visible to both the employee and the customer).

We apologize for overcharging you $0.50 and are willing to make it up to you.
    Thanks,
    Alex

  • Dish D'Lish Owner

    Marina,
We are sorry to hear that, but we've started to force our employees to write the orders down to avoid mistakes. When mistakes are made, we either fix them or give out free food.
    Thank you for your feedback.

    the food is good

  • telemann

While the food here is a bit pricey, it is very good. The owner is extremely friendly and does seem to care about his customers, and that is so refreshing. Since New Clements went out of business last July, it was hard to find a place that made hotcakes and french toast or hash browns in the morning. I was thrilled to see that offered here. The new bakery items are amazing, including even the cold ones such as eclairs. You'll never want to go to Dunkin' Donuts after having this. I tried the chocolate pudding and it's extremely rich, but man was it good!

Gaflumoxed in San Diego – Good morning! In the corner of the US and Mexico I am trying to make bagels. My problem – I kettle them and as soon as they come out of the water, looking nice and fluffy, they start to drop. They continue to fall in the oven and when they finish are a doughy, heavy mess. I am using good fresh yeast, high gluten flour, kneading them for five to ten minutes, letting them rise twice before kettling. Seem to be doing everything right, then they flop. Any ideas? Sure appreciate your time and thought on this.
