This certainly is a worthwhile cause, but I DO agree we should be using that money towards our homeless and our educational system

They've redone parts of it as recently as last year. Those are "band-aid" repairs, and only fix trouble spots. The new materials used (ie. NOT WOOD), are supposed to reduce the need for such repairs. We'll see.

Wait a tic, didn't they redo it after like, 75 years or so just a few years ago? My dad works for the Parks Dept, and I remember them having a ceremony-- we have pieces of the original boardwalk and everything. Was that just part of it?

2. Are there any local contractors left that arent involved in some shady mafia bullshit?

I agree with that totally, but imagine it was as simple as the city put out an RFP for the work and there are more companies looking to bid now. There are definitely contracting rules; i'd be surprised if no-bid.

I don't think we needed to wait. Wouldn't the money come from federal grants given to the city specifically for construction work from the various stimulus bills anyway?

However, there certainly should have been a bidding process over the course of a least a few weeks. This city has a very.....suspicious habit of awarding no bid contracts.

As for it being a West Coast company.
1. Regardless of being a West Coast Company don't they have to hire local workers? They arent actually going to fly out peons and grunts to do the labor from the west coast are they?

Based only on a press release from the contractor, news like this can spawn all sorts of rumors and stories.

This contract was awarded too quickly. Was there no bidding process at all? Most importantly, why give the contract to a company that is on the West coast, and make no pretensions of being national in scope.

Ned is working hard each and every day! Let's hope we're all sharing the site with others.

As for the boardwalk being rebuilt: I'm confused. Is the entire thing going to be ripped out and rebuilt? Doesn't this sound excessive? Will they be adding anything extra to bring the boardwalk area to the modern world? Bike paths and storage areas, shower facilities and lockers -- would be very welcome.
