Good Morning, Commuters

B Train Service Cancelled

These signs went up at B/Q stations citywide on Wednesday morning. The fight isn’t over yet, though. Stay tuned…

Assembly members Maisel, Weinstein and I have arranged a meeting with MTA officials next week to find a better way to do this that might not interrupt service this badly for this long.
    So, let’s see.

Thing is that is one of approximately 4 different posters all saying different things about the B/Q. Maybe you have to transfer at Atlantic from the Q to the Q… Maybe you have to take a bus from the park to Kings Highway…. Maybe your train is skipping your stop…
I do not get the waste of paper, time and information lost when it comes to these countless posters. The single informational poster makes the most sense.
Its been 10 years so I am sorta used to it but lately it is really insane. All it all gets worse for anyone who travels late at night.
A late night home last week involved Getting on the Q – transferring at Atlantic for the Q – switching to a bus at prospect – and if you lived at one of the skipped train stations after getting back on the Q at Kings Highway : backtracking.

I hope something can be done.. but for now i’ve given up on the Q/B line. I take the 2 train from flatbush/bklyn college station to and from work. The 44 bus ride is longer and can be annoying at times but at the times I commute in the morning (very early) it runs smooth and on schedule and I get in much faster than dealing with the Q/B fiasco.

Weekend commuters — if you can learn the 2 line and the connecting buses. It may help.

I received a response from the MTA finally. The letter basically says this is the way it will be. The letter goes on to say that the B can not go faster than the Q because they are sharing the same track. As previously noted Councilman Fidler and several other Elected Officals as well as myself are meeting with MTA representatives to discuss this issue and try and at least cut down the construction time.

Well. for all of the inconveniences I see very little evidence that work gets done with these projects in a timely fashion. I check the “progress” of the projects at Neck Road and Avenue U and see little activity or change. The only change is a changed completion date, likely to be changed again. Cranes are rented on long term contracts and and sitting in the gutted out spaces mostly unused. So money gets wasted as well.

It must be quite thrilling to be a power largely unto one’s self, and not worry too greatly about having to be answerable.
