For those not following the conversation on our old Walgreens post, Sheepshead Bay’s fifth location of the pharmacy chain opened on Friday, September 4.

The photo above, came in from Kismet via Twitpic/Twitter, and she says the “atmosphere was super friendly, everyone was helpful and pleasant.” In the comment stream, others seem to be saying the same. It appears Walgreens’ 7,000th location is a big hit in the ‘hood, and pulled in more than $9,000 in front-end purchases on the first day.

This Walgreens, on Coney Island Avenue and Avenue W, opened two weeks ahead of schedule, according to commenter “walgreens mgt” – who we can only assume is Walgreens’ savvy social networking flack. He/She (My gut says “she.” Care to confirm, flack?) says a grand opening is coming before October 1, probably around September 28. Walgreens CEO, Greg Wasson, will visit to tour the store.

It was a very complicated deal there were alot of family members involved that hated each other we went from being brokers to social workers. in the end one side sold to the other i think somewhere between 2.5-3 mil it closed almost 2 years ago. then they master leased it to a preferred walgreens developer that subleased it to walgreens. its the same guy that is putting walgreens on ave u near flatbush ave i think it was a diner before. walgreens likes to put in their own developers in if they can so they dont have headaches like we had. also they are trying to sell the property now for 20 mil which is the craziest thing ive seen with the rent thats being paid you lose money for the next 15 years then start making it back from the rent increase its just crazy. before we went the leasing route we were trying to sell it for 6 mil and that was a great offer at the peak of market.

My gut says “she” also. Maybe we’ll find out when the store has its Grand Opening. Maybe we’ll be specially invited guests.

Yes, doesn’t sound like a great stop but the Labor Day weekend was beginning. They should be doing close to twice as much a day by next Friday. It’s a good location, accessible and and its stands out without being tawdry or loud.

Yes, the big corporate visits will be around between now and October 1st. Stores nearby are gearing up for the visit just in case the suits decide to stop in before or after the visit to Walgreens’ 7000th store.

And yes, the store did $9,000 in self service sales on the first day.

Understand that a lot of residents aren’t aware that the Walgreens on C.I. and W is open, so it will take time to build sales, but according to the detailed numbers, the average spending for every customer varies between $13 to $15, so that’s excellent.

Stores in an high volume foot traffic area, and with parking lots will generally do a lot better than stores without the ‘xtra’ foot traffic.

I gotta say I’ve noticed that all of a sudden there are a lot more parking spots available at the meters on Coney and KH!

Hey Manager dude. The Cashews by the Soda. They’re all half nuts and broken cashews! Bring out the whole nuts! Easier to grab out of the can. OM NOM NOM!
