Sheepshead Bites is proud to introduce a new feature that requires almost no effort or thought on our behalf (we’re very proud of those types of initiatives): Open Thread Mondays. Every Monday we’re putting up a post – much like this one – that gives you the opportunity to rant and rave about whatever you like. Is there something around the bay that’s been bugging you? Was some chick on the train tragically singing along to her own god-awful music and you want to vent? Did your little ‘un get a good grade in school and you want to brag about it? Want to self-promote last week’s Flickr photos? Here’s the place!

Tell your neighbors what you think they should see online. Tell us what you think we should cover. Rants, raves, jokes, suggestions, blasphemes — this is your free-form playground to broadcast whatever you want. Go for it, Sheepshead!

Keep doing this, and don’t get disheartened if it takes a few weeks to catch on. It will eventually, and become a popular feature of the site.

Thanks for the encouragement, Lisanne. It’s been a totally lackluster day in terms of comments. I’m chalking it up to Yum Kippur. Clearly my entire readership – except you – is observant Jews. Clearly…

    I Love You.
Rant #1.. Ever wonder why people pick up their dogs poop in a bag or tissue only to throw it under a car?
A solution that might help is … Apartment buildings that allow dogs should have a container outside for these tenants. Let’s face it who wants to carry poop home?

  4. clareon 28 Sep 2009 at 8:11 pm

Rant #2.. What’s up with all the sick trees in the area?
They have been sick and a threat for years.
Disease is spreading to different varieties.
Ice and wind will bring down some that rain has not.

  5. clareon 28 Sep 2009 at 8:16 pm

Rant #3.. Three of the sites that have been reported for poison ivy have been cleared. TY.
It is fall and it will be back double next spring where it has not been permanently removed.

Anyone have any idea whats going to happen to Dunkin Donuts building on emmons?

I’m pretty sure everyone knows which one I’m talking about…
Once I heard they were opening back up in the fall, and now nothing. Really miss that spot.

  7. Ned Berkeon 29 Sep 2009 at 1:06 am

We’ll have news on that this week or early next week. Pretty much as soon as we can confirm it. Stay tuned.

  8. BrooklynQon 29 Sep 2009 at 12:15 pm

Enough with the Shopping Cart posts already! Cute when they began, but enough.

  9. clareon 29 Sep 2009 at 4:12 pm

I love the trials and tribulations of an inanimate object.
    Strange, but still a perspective.
    LOL.

  10. Arthur Bon 29 Sep 2009 at 7:19 pm

I wouldn’t have said so otherwise, but since someone else said something I’m not a fan of the Shopping Cart posts either. It seems to have its fans however so by all means continue.

BrooklynQ: You’re a BBQ guy right? When are we going to taste some?

On another note I think Sheepshead Bites needs more. Ned and Ray are but singular people that work on this blog as a labor of love. Ever since I’ve discovered the site I’ve sent Ned every relevant picture or news event I’ve stumbled across and I think this site would only get better if more and more people did so, and even went looking for stories.

  11. Ray Johnsonon 29 Sep 2009 at 7:27 pm

Arthur, if BrooklynQ wants to get us some BBQ, I know of a shopping cart we can use to cart the whole lot over and maybe have a little picnic before it gets cold…

  12. BrooklynQon 29 Sep 2009 at 9:43 pm

IF SheepsheadBites wants to sponsor a picnic or a get together, I’m in. I’m not ready to go commercial, but I can certainly handle a party of 50 or less.

  13. Arthur Bon 29 Sep 2009 at 10:18 pm

    Mmmmmmhmmmmm, ribs….*salivates*

  14. joon 30 Sep 2009 at 2:36 am

sponsor picnic sponsor picnic! i would def. take a trip to the bay for that. mmmm bbq.

you know what’s on my mind? why is it so hard to find a reasonably priced apartment in Brooklyn that has three actual bedrooms. i always find two great rooms and then the third is the size of a closet!

listening to the radio. type o negative is on. did you guys know that they are from brooklyn? just a friendly shot of metal news for the day.

  15. clareon 30 Sep 2009 at 5:43 am

I make a wicked Italian Potato salad.

    Count me in.

  16. Ned Berkeon 30 Sep 2009 at 10:39 am

So… I guess we’re beginning to see the trappings of a Sheepshead Bites picnic. Any ideas for a location? It’s getting a bit chilly out…

  17. Arthur Bon 30 Sep 2009 at 11:24 am

I think we can do it outdoors till late October and be fine. I’m guessing Manhattan Beach as the obvious choice if you want to actually hold it in sheepshead.

  18. clareon 30 Sep 2009 at 4:29 pm

Picnic will work @ Manhattan Beach but I heard BBQ.
    BBQ…..BBQ……..BBQ. :-} droolllll.

  19. clareon 30 Sep 2009 at 5:20 pm

    I take that back.
    There are not many choices.
More than 20 people require a permit.
the other location in the are is the park on Bedford Ave. n Ave Y.
Can’t imagine a permit being granted for there.

  20. Arthur Bon 30 Sep 2009 at 5:26 pm

Would more then 20 people actually show up?

  21. BrooklynAon 30 Sep 2009 at 5:43 pm

The only local park that allows an open fire or grill is Manhattan Beach, unless someone has a house that could accommodate.

  22. Arthur Bon 30 Sep 2009 at 6:27 pm

The only park in Sheepshead Bay. The park by Seagate has open grills also, as does Prospect Park. But yes, for Sheepshead, the only place we can do this without a special permit is Manhattan Beach.

  23. Lisanne!on 30 Sep 2009 at 8:15 pm

I think it’s freezing right now. What happened to the warm Octobers I was starting to expect?

A Barbecue sounds just fine. We could keep the flames going afterwards and stay warm.

  24. clareon 30 Sep 2009 at 8:54 pm

    RAY????

  25. clareon 30 Sep 2009 at 8:58 pm

NED U C ? Ray said if it’s OK with you it’s OK with him. LOL

  26. Ned Berkeon 30 Sep 2009 at 10:47 pm

I’m beginning to think giving you people an open outlet was a mistake!!! ;P

  27. Lisanne!on 30 Sep 2009 at 11:11 pm

What, you don’t like the idea of a nice open fire on Manhattan Beach?

We’ll bring marshmallows, everything will be just fine.

  28. Arthur Bon 30 Sep 2009 at 11:18 pm

I’ll make the Smores for everyone! I actually love BBQing, but since BrooklynQ is a consummate professional I’d let him do the BBQing. I want to try his food. I’ll bring Pepsi products and stuff for Smores!

  29. Lisanne!on 30 Sep 2009 at 11:32 pm

    There we go. We’re unstoppable!

  33. Ned Berkeon 02 Dec 2009 at 1:36 pm

Jesus christ this spam is getting really good! The above post is a spammer, and I’ve removed the very very very hidden link. I’m leaving the post though. Why? Because the question actually isn’t half bad. Maybe some real readers have the same question.
