Sure, we’ve been harping about the devastating changes to the B train express for a while now. But those who don’t read our site were surprised to find this morning that the B is running local. Complaints from surprised residents started pouring in via Twitter this morning.

Don’t just complain to your friends and the Twitterverse, though. Complain to the legislators and the MTA, and help try to find an alternative!

You know, I hadn’t read your site before, but I have heard this news as “gossip” for months now, kind of lurking around but never really concrete. Got to Sheepshead today to find out the devastating news. I live in Belle Harbor (Rockaway Beach to all of you, other side of the Marine Parkway Bridge) and basically have no options when it comes to commuting. Express bus takes 2 1/2 hours on the way home, and if i take the A, I’d have to walk a mile and half from my house to a 1 hour 40 minute commute that usually takes longer, including the shuttle. I drive to Sheepshead every morning and fight for parking (sorry to all of you who live there) and take the B in because it has been the fastest route for the last 2 years. Posters now say this is only going to be in effect until 9/25 – but I think this is just the beginning to the end. I will write letters and beg for something else, maybe an affordable express bus that runs the same line as the B, anything to help. Just wanted to state – yes – it’s here – and it SUCKS. Only reason my commute wasn’t completely horrible today is because I took the Q, which stops less in Manhattan. Ugh..

That is an unbelievable commute, monica. Kudos to you for forging ahead day after day!

There is an express bus–the BM3 that takes a bit long, but might work if you get on it early enough and if it stops in Manhattan close to your job. You might like to find some carpool partners from the Rockaways or maybe consider biking.

There are various non-profit initiatives that are working to help organize commuters for a logistically smart commute that is also environmentally safe. As soon as I get a chance, I’ll pull together the list of resources for you. Stay tuned.
