Good riddance to disposal water bottles. Go on a nature walk into any tidal wetland and what will you find? Plastic water bottles (and other no-deposit containers) washed up at the high tide line. I can't recall if the new Bigger Better Bottle Bill is adding a deposit for these bottles; if not, ask your elected officials in Albany to push for it. Used to find soda/beer cans and bottles out there, but no more; either they are returned directly by consumers, homeless collect them for income, etc. H2O is H20; tastes off, use a carbon filter!

As someone who used to live in California (the tap water there is disgusting; tastes like chlorine!), I can definitely agree that New York's water is something to be thankful for. All of those plastic bottles can't be good for the environment, anyway.

As for this picture, I can't be sure, but aren't all those bottles full? Why would someone abandon that?

Alex - Even before Stop and Shop put signs up at the checkout counters they would send a van out to collect carts that were spotted by customers. Waldbaum's did it at one time, but I do not know whether they still will.

It seems a lot of managers are short-staffed and have difficulty sending people out to get the carts.

The water system in NYC has always been planning ahead. We exceeded the purification requirements when they were first enacted and continued over the years to add to the mix. When the water is clean the chemicals are removed, so our water is pure. Other water systems leave residues.

I've been to several of our reservoirs. They are awesome sights.

Clare - At least you tried. I find the sheer number of carts I see overwhelming.

True story Alex.
I tried to get staples ( Ocean Ave. &-Ave.X) to get one off my corner that was there for days.
The manager said he can't send anyone for it.
I said I would put it in the middle of the street and he did not care.
I called the main office and it was gone.

Good point about tap water Lisanne!
Looks like people around this blog do not like stolen shopping carts, but does anyone know about retailer-side opinion? I tried to get one cart back to Pathmark @ Cropsey Avenue but it was a challenge of getting through the ignorance. Any ideas?

I thought this was a entrepreneurial shopping cart. But obviously this is just slave labor again. All I have to say is this shopping cart should make a bolt for freedom. As should all the bottle water slaves. It's insane that people waste their money buying what is available right in your kitchen, and much cheaper. NYC water is the best in the world, and possibly healthier than Perrier.
