The King's Bay YM-YWHA and Trump Village West - Community Carnival, May 19, 2013

My dear readers, it appears you haven’t been listening to me. Last week, when I cried and cursed about the MTA’s plans to terminate B-train express service for most of Brooklyn, you were right there with me. You filled up the comments section, bitched and moaned about the MTA’s bologna. But, though I provided you with the names and numbers of your representatives, it appears you did nothing.

I spoke to Community Board 15 Chairperson Theresa Scavo this Tuesday, and she said she was equally furious about the situation. She, too, has a midtown commute to make, afterall. Still, though, in her role as CB15 chairperson, she has taken no action to fight the issue. Why? She says you haven’t e-mailed or called her.

“I haven’t heard from the community,” she said. “I don’t fight for me. I fight for the residents.” She also added that she has not received one complaint. If it were so much as 10, she says, “I’d be on the phone with transit every hour.”

Scavo knows this battle. When the MTA threatened to cut bus service to Gerritsen Beach, she says she heard so much outcry from residents that she was constantly heckling transit officials until those plans were scaled back. Ideally, Scavo can do the same in this instance.

If that doesn’t motivate you, Scavo also told me that she expects service cancellations to extend beyond the two years stated by the MTA. She agrees with us that the construction work can be done on a different schedule to at least keep partial express service, but since the MTA has had no pressure on them it’s unlikely.

So please help put the pressure on them! E-mail or call Theresa Scavo using the below information, or she will not lift a finger to stop these changes:

This is so stupid! Not everyone is aware of the service change. MTA did not post anything at any of the train stations. So how can people bitch?!?! They should also eliminate the Q train service too. Once the trains are gone, the hoes will be in town. Hoes need love too.

I’m more ticked at the “nothing happening” scene at Neck Road station.

You know , if they had to, they rebuild the entire Brighton Line in two years.

Then again, we’re talking about the present day MTA.

Well, I’m not sure about hoes getting us some changes around here, but I do know that readers commenting here are a genuine outcry. What more do we need to hear? Phones ringing have so become just one of the many ways of communicating…do we need to go back to the pony express for (some) politicians to get the message?

Again, I’m disappointed with the lack of support for the residents of Sheepshead Bay by the leaders and members of Community Board 15. The Community Board leaders should not have to wait until they are contacted by the comunity to take some type of action to stop the entire cancellation of B train express service.
Those who ride the B train know what’s happening. Family, friends and residents in the community know whats happening… And our leader is stated here; No one has contacted me, I’m equally furious, if only 10 would make contact… If your the leader in the community, out on the streets talking with residents, knowing how many count on the B train express every work day and no one or you have not had a conversation about the express service cancellation… Doesn’t that make you wonder?
About contacting Community Board 15. They do not have as yet thier own website. They are only listed under NYC.GOV. The address and telephone number are listed without a email address. Just to confirm, the email address mentoned above, is that for the contacting the Community Board directly?
Once the riders and residents of Sheepshead Bay are informed they need to contact Community Board 15 about the need to express concern of the B Train Express Service Cancellation there should be no problem with reaching the number 10.
Sheepshead Bites is the watchdog for all of us… They feel the heartbeat of the community. They don’t wait, they go out, find out and keep us informed…

Tim: The phone number is for the CB15 office. The e-mail address is Theresa Scavo’s direct e-mail address.

Whether or not it should be necessary to contact her to take action is a debate for another day. What’s important now is the people email and call Scavo – NON-STOP – to get her to move on this issue.

Btw, I think we’ll make this our new slogan: “Sheepshead Bites is the watchdog for all of us… They feel the heartbeat of the community. They don’t wait, they go out, find out and keep us informed…” Thanks for the kind words ;)

    No! No! No! NYET!!!!

Honestly, I’m 15 and even I understand how screwed up this situation is.
People hardly know where(and what) Sheepshead Bay is when I tell them where I live.
Cutting of the B is like cutting our throats! Who will come here now?

Not to mention the fact that I have to be on the B by 6:40 or else I be late to school in Bushwick, and with the local I’ll have to be on the Q by 6:20? I’m not spending high school waking up early just because the MTA is getting high off it’s own exhuast.

There goes both my school and social life.

    I’m writing the Scavo lady.

    Dear Ms. Scavo,
I’m using B train to get from Sheepshead Bay to my work in Manhattan every day, and it is always crowded. Many people
from other then Sheepshead Bay areas are using B-train. I still remember the time, when MTA promised to cancel B line service
for 18 month and then it turn to more then 2 years. It happen only about 8 years ago. We should ask MTA why this need came again? May be last repair was not good enough and they just waited our money.
Please help the Sheepshead Bay – Manhattan commuters to stop these outrageous MTA plans.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely

I first learned about it yesterday from a tiny mention in a different magazine.
We received no notice from the MTA. If you go to the MTA web site you’ll find no mention of it.
    There are no signs posted.

I just sent an email to the address above, but I’ve been living here in Comm Board 15 for many years and have found it to be for all practical purposes useless. There are community boards elsewhere that are more responsive and more effective. So it’s not because Comm. Bd. 15 can’t; it just doesn’t.

The real B-train problem, as I see it, is the MTA’s failure to communicate its intention. I ride the B regularly, heard casually some time ago about a cancelation plan, and then heard only very recently about some plan to put the B on the same track as the Q, instead of canceling it altogether. Until then I hadn’t heard of the plan to cancel the B, except from a neighbor who didn’t remember who told him. If there is such a plan, how do I get the details?

When I learn what the plan really is, and I believe it will hurt the community, and I know where to register my complaint where it might do some good, I’ll complain loudly and often.

Thanks for any insight you can send me!

    Dear Ms. Scavo,

I am riding B train to work every day. I can live with the fact that B36 bus does not stop between Bedford Avenue and Sheepshead bay station, because of the extreme overcrowding and forces me to walk 15 blocks every morning. But now, with the cancelation of B train (that’s what MTA should call it and not cover it up as temporarily delay), my commute is over hour and 15 minutes long. MTA should at least inform the public properly as to why EVERY station between Brighton and Atlantic avenues is closed. They also should explain how they got the 7-minute delay figure. The way I see and experience it, it’s at least 15 minute delay, not to mention the fact that trains are extremely overcrowded now as well.

Please see if you can extract more information from MTA as to why we have to face such outrageous delays and why such a course was chosen.

    Thank you,
