metro pcs flag jutting out 2This advertising flag was seen jutting out from the Metro PCS store on Sheepshead Bay Road (between Jerome Avenue and Voorhies Avenue).

Pedestrians, like the one seen dodging the flag, who are trying to avoid curb drivers, can be seen bending to avoid suddenly hitting the flag.

We don’t need a lot of words to explain why this type of advertisement is wrong, wrong, wrong. But, why does Metro PCS feel that their business is so special enough that they should have this type of sign invading the walking space?

did you send this to their store maybe? they need to know.

Either the store owners are totally oblivious or they are going way too far to attract attention to their business. What’s next? Throwing rolled up catalogs at the passersby? Seriously though, that flag looks like a liability to these eyes. A crowded sidewalk could nudge somebody right into a painful head injury. Perhaps somebody should mention the words “insurance claim” to the owners. Meanwhile, I thank you my safety-minded blogger. I’ll be sure to wear a hard-hat next time I’m in the neighborhood.

I agree, but I just wanted to point out that they aren’t the only business doing it. Bay Pizzeria and Restaurant on Sheepshead Bay Rd between e14th and e15th streets have had flags on the sidewalk for years. Every time that sidewalk gets crowded, which it does quite often, those flags end up smacking people right in the face. Even worse is that they are filthy and smacking people in the face.

    David, point well taken!

Actually, that was going to be the subject of one of my upcoming posts and I was going to put the offenders all together…cell phone store, florist, pizza, and whoever else we could find. It’s getting outrageous!

It just seemed interesting that this one is diagonal and in the air space, so the company probably thinks they’re staying within the law — not that some people are interested in obeying the law, anyway.
