UPDATE as of 7/27/09: Please note changes* in the performances for July 30 and August 20. The concert originally scheduled featuring Franki Valli and the Four Seasons and Connie Francis has been moved up to July 30 from August 20. The Salsa by the Sea concert has been moved from July 30 to August 20. Please check the official website (link below) for full details.
We’re lookin’ forward to the 31st Annual Seaside Summer Concert Series, and you should be too. Shows are held Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. in Asser Levy/Seaside Park at West 5th Street and Surf Avenue in Coney Island/Brighton Beach, across the street from the New York Aquarium. It’s a shame that this year’s events are marred by the recent controversy around the site. Local Jewish groups are opposing Brooklyn Borough Prez Markowitz’s $64 million plan to turn the tiny band shell into a top-notch 8,000 seat arena – which would certainly help revitalize the area. But no need to get distracted by that; instead, go see these great shows!
July 16 Creedence Clearwater Revisited; Mountain; John Sebastian
July 23 Gladys Knight; The O’Jays
July 30 *Note Change: Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons; Connie Francis
[Salsa by the Sea (Performers to be announced) Originally scheduled, moved to August 20]
Aug. 6 Daryl Hall & John Oates‘ Up Close & Personal Tour

Performers are subject to change without notice. Call the concert hotline for updates at (718) 222-0600.

Perhaps I’m betraying my not-twentysomethingness by saying so, but I think Blondie and Pat Benatar on the same night is awesome.
No shame in that! Let’s hope the young ‘uns leave the fun to those who can really appreciate it!
What a picture! I just can’t believe all these music greats are coming here in one summer!
must disagree, the area is a seaside village and does not need an 8000 seat arena. the area’s charm is already being destroyed by the new development company. some updating is needed but in in general keep Brighton/coney island what they are, charming seaside villages.
what would be great would be to have what is called a Power Pop Night at the Park 3 bands that would make an awesome billing Enuff Z’Nuff , Myracle Brah & Cheap Trick that would be an amazing show trust me on this
Joe: Not a bad idea! I’d go and see a Cheap Trick show for sure.
I just noticed that the concert featuring Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and Connie Francis has been moved up to Thursday, July 30, 2009. It was originally scheduled for August 20. Now, I see on the website that it says the concert is set for THIS Thursday.
The least they might have done is make a mention of the performance changes on the website by stating that this is a change from what was previously announced.
I’m sure there are going to be a lot of people who were planning on coming out for these two legendary performers, who will now show up on August 20 and find Salsa by the Sea! Well, at least we have a few more weeks to practice our Spanish and fancy footwork.

Where on earth did you get the idea that “Jewish groups” are opposing the plans to construct an amphitheater in the park??? For your information, this is a COMMUNITY ISSUE. Thousands of people throughout Brooklyn have attended meetings & signed petitions opposing this project. It will turn the only open, green space in a densely packed, residential communty into a year round, commercially operated entertainment venue. By the way, there will be no parking provided for the 8,000 folks who will patronize Marty’s Monument, which will operate year-round. People in Sheepshead Bay bitch & moan about a few hundred extra cars going to the restaurants on Emmons Ave. Come down here on a concert night – once you get south of the Belt Pkwy, everything is completely gridlocked – even ambulances can’t get through. Our side streets are blocked off to accomodate the entourages of the performers and the politicians and buses are backed up and re-routed all over the place.
You’ve been smelling those dead fish for far too long Sheepshead – you’re way off base on this one. This multi-ethnic, multi-cultural community is united and working together to battle this.
[...] for the 47th District, Domenic Recchia, Jr., also hosts concerts at Asser Levy Park. Like the Thursday night Seaside concerts, the Tuesday night concerts are a lot of fun. But the Tuesday night version is on a much (much, [...]
You have no idea how incredible loud the music is when you live near by. It is like you have a loud disco in your bedroom. Sleep, conversation, TV watching is impossible. You have to leave the apartment until the concert is over.
Oh so what. There are what, 3 or 4 buildings on that block? This only happens during the summer. When people move in they can CLEARLY see the Bandshell across the street. It’s one of those things you just choose to live with.
If it’s that much of a nuisance get together with all the other tennants in your building and see if you can get the landlord or even the city to soundproof your windows.
Why can't they have any new bands. Diversity is the key. youngesters should like these if they had Shania Twain and Celine Dion.
Because those bands will do these concerts at little cost to the government.
