sheepshead anniversary 2
(Image courtesy of Sheepshead Bay High School website; reunion invitation)

Today is Memorial Day, so it seems fitting to announce a celebration of 50 years of memories for Sheepshead Bay High School.

This November, Sheepshead Bay High School will be having a celebration to mark 50 years of being the secondary educational hub in our little corner of seaside Brooklyn. To meet your old high school chums and teachers, you’ll have to venture out to Giando on the Water.

The invitation is posted on the general website, so we’re thinking that it’s not just people from 1959 who are welcome. It looks like everyone who had anything to do with the school from 1959 to 2009 is invited — so long as you can get together $125 per ticket before September 30 — to dance the night away at Giando on The Water. Imagine 50 years of alumni and staff under one roof. That’s a lot of people, so the price will probably keep the numbers down to to safe occupancy limits at the venue.

There will be an open bar. So if you graduated in the past few years and you’re not 21 by November 7, 2009, don’t bother bringing your fake ID’s — your teachers will be there.

Check the Sheepshead Bay High School news and announcements link for a pdf file of the flyer and the usual tear-off sheet to include with payment. Here are the invitation details:

That’s sad. Maybe an event at the high school itself would have bee o more interest.

John Dewey had a 30th anniversary event at the school ten years ago which was well attended. They may have had a 40th, but no one bothered to tell me about it. Maybe because I passed on the 30th. Seeing people I remembered as teenagers get old just doesn’t do it for me.

Maybe a lot of people feel that way. But its sad for those who want to see people they haven’t seen in years.

Sorry I missed it. I’ve been looking for my favorite teacher Mr Kahn. He truly made me like History.
Hope he’s still with us. Miss Shapiro was my favorite english teacher. I would love to talk to them both. Oh Well maybe I can catch the next anniversary.

Yes, Miss Bunnie Shapiro is an English teacher I will not forget and I graduated in 1974. Her boyfriend would do things to her car and it would break down.

Remember the male science teacher that wore polyester leisure suits?
I don't remember much other than I was a cheerleader for a school without a football team. The school has completed changed but I drove by it a few months back when I went back to Brooklyn for a visit on my way to Long Island.
