The Cherry Hill Gourmet Market and Restaurant has installed speakers outside of the Lundy’s landmark building’s facade.
On the Ocean Avenue side, there are speakers set underneath the windows to serenade those seated at the cafe tables. On the Emmons Avenue side, there is a small speaker set up between the windows, with holes already drilled for what might be a complete surround sound system. There, also, appear to be spots painted over as if it was a drill misplacement that had to be covered over.
Passersby noted that the music blaring loudly made them feel like they were in a European techno dance club. Which might not necessarily be such a bad thing, except that the already busy Ocean and Emmons intersection will be at a standstill with rubberneckers checking the moves.
A few of the comments that could be heard were: “Not a nice effect”, “Feels like Eurotrash,” and “Let’s go eat somewhere quiet, can’t relax over there.”
Since I’m a neutral party on this whole thing, I had to show them all my poker face. While most every bone in my body was goin’ Lady GaGa with the beat of the club mix version blaring out the speakers, “She’s got to love nobody“.
Since the Cherry Hill Market and Restaurant is open 24 hours, bloggers will be able to go under the cover of night to get their sidewalk beat on. See ya there!

Do they have permits for playing music outside?
Do they have an ASCAP license for the public performance of music?
Do they have a sidewalk cafe permit?
I didn’t see any of those permits hanging up in their windows. More of Cherry Hill flaunting the laws.
What is your problem with Cherry Hill Market. Permits for playing music outside, public performance of music. What is wrong with you. I think you have tooo much time on your hand. I suggest doing sommething positive with your time. Maybe you should volunteer your time for a good cause.
Instead of being angry with yourself at the lack of your life achievements, you should be happy for the community that can now enjoy Cherry Hill.
Also maybe you should start your own business and employ over one hundred people from the community.
By the way DO YOU HAVE A PERMIT for writing your nonsense?
I am not sure to whom MR.’s comments were directed, but I feel the need to inform all of our readers that, yes, in fact, Ray and I do hold permits for writing our nonsense. You can check with the Department of Irrelevant Rhetorical Renderings (DIRR) for verification.
Oop, Neditor, I forgot to mention that I didn’t put enough postage on the mail and my permit application came back…sorry.
MR.
I don’t have a problem with legitimate businesses opening and operating in the Bay, but the Cherry Hill folks appear to have no regard for the laws.
If they want a market, if they want the sidewalk seating, if they want to publicly amplify music or even play music in the store, they need to follow all applicable laws and zoning and get the proper permits. Sorry bud. That’s the way it works.
They employ over 100 people? Maybe. I hope all of them are on the books and pay taxes. Dunn and Bradstreet states that Cherry Hill Market employs 4.
Let the folks at Cherry Hill come into compliance and I’ll be happy.
As for me MR, I’m very happy and do more than my fair share of volunteering and have created 2 annual events that benefit the Sheepshead Bay community. What have you done?
And I already have my own business thank you very much. I don’t employ over 100 but I do OK.
BrooklynQ,
You certainly got something up your ass? All the permits you are mentioning are these so that the corrupt politicians can consolidate power. They are certainly not there for anyone’s safety.
Instead of dumping on Cherry Hill, you need to realize that they revitalized a building that has been an eyesore for years. They will succeed there as well becuase their owner knows how to run a business.
I do wonder what “business” you are in though.
