(Queens DA Office Criminal Complaint excerpt)

If you haven’t already heard the 1010 WINS report that Alexander Kravitz, a Homecrest (or Gravesend resident — depending on which of our local neighbors know him from E. 7 St) was arrested and arraigned on numerous sex-related offenses.

If these charges stick and Kravitz turns out to be guilty, all of our children will be safer. Apparently, he kept his in-person, illegal activity outside of Sheepshead Bay, preferring to lure his underage, internet prey with a meeting arranged in a Queens motel. (What? The Windjammer was too classy for him?) Fortunately, his prey turned out to be an undercover NYPD detective with handcuffs ready.

I don’t know on which level this whole thing offends me most. Is it the fact that this guy is a tenured teacher at 26 years of age (at that age, is that even possible?) while there are plenty of really great teachers out there sitting on their certifications and unable to get hired for whatever-bureaucratic-reason-du jour that the NYC Department of Education wants to offer up (but, hey, this story isn’t about me)? So, back to how offensive this whole thing is.

Kravitz is (or should I say “was”) an automotive teacher at William E. Grady Vocational High School at 25 Brighton 4 Road in Brighton Beach. According to 1010 Wins, the NYC Department of Education has reassigned the accused teacher, promising that he won’t be allowed near children again. I guess this means that he is out on bail and back at home with his mom and sister.

Speaking of mom, she was quoted by the NY Daily News as saying “I don’t believe any of it. It has to be a mistake. I’ve never seen any young man work so hard. I don’t see how he’d even have the time.” So what you’re trying to say is that your son would have committed the crime if he just had the time?

We understand about the close relationship that exists between mothers and their sons. Even Charles Carneglia — who allegedly admitted to destroying a murdered man’s body in acid, as par for the course as a Mafia hit man — had a loving mother he needed to kiss before heading off to jail.

I have often wondered the same thing whenever I hear these horrendous stories about how evildoers commit all their astounding crimes: Where do they get the time?. But, you know what? I really don’t have a lot of time to dwell on it. Mrs. Kravitz, if your son wanted to commit the most dastardly act for his own pleasure, he can find the time.

It seems odd that a major thought on his mom’s mind is about the time her son has at his disposal. It’s not as if she’s saying that he is a honorable person who would never touch a child in any untoward way. No, it’s not that. It’s just that he wouldn’t have any time to do that type of thing. Was her son hardworking? Yes, it seems little Alexander was very hardworking. He started working as a NYC teacher in 2002 and in just six years has earned tenure. That must have taken a lot of work. Either that or a lot of favors. But, yeah, he was working very hard all the time apparently downloading horrible images and instant messaging minors for sex.

But, time is something that this guy is about to have a lot of, because he’s probably going to be set up in some cozy Bored of Education desk job until his verdict. I wonder if he’s going to be near a computer and webcam where he could be tempted to upload his own illicit video to internet-savvy kids whose hardworking parents don’t have the endless amount of time it takes to “monitor” their kids’ online activities. According to BadBadTeacher.com, he sent self-produced videos featuring himself as the main (and only) actor — directing himself in, what he must have thought was, a very pleasuring scene.

And so we come to the part of this story that is most offensive. According to the NY Daily News, if authorities find that the images of babies and children being molested found on his computer are of Kravitz engaged in these horrendous acts, then Brooklyn-born Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, will raise even more serious charges.

Kravitz could spend up to 4 years in prison, if convicted of the charges in this criminal complaint. That might allow Grady tech students to concentrate on graduating and to forget that he ever was their teacher.

You people are all the same you read one article that isnt even a page long and already make assumptions and accusations. All you see is child molester and suddenly everyone is the judge jury and executioner. If the world was really like this there would be millions of innocent people dead because everyone was too caught up in what they read and not the truth. FIRST of all Alex was a victim of entrapment.
I am sick of innocent hard working people getting coerced and entrapped into situations that they would not be in if there wasnÂ’t a LAW BENDING LIEING PIG like Sgt. Robert Minca out there fishing for innocent hard working people and pretty much tempting and coercing them to do something illegal.
MR Kravitz is guilty of MAYBE online socializing and dating. (FREEDOM OF SPEECH PROTECTS US AS CITIZENS) I CAN CURSE OUT A MINOR TELL THEM I WANT TO BANG THEM ALL NIGHT LONG IF I CHOSE ITS NOT ILLEGAL. Its pretty rude and tasteless but legal. Now I guess sending naked or nude pics to a PRETEND MINOR. I guess they can say thatÂ’s illegal but who is to say that I know itÂ’s a guy messing with me and I am sending pics and videos just to mess with them right back?
You know how many gay men are online preying on straight guys and they pretend to be young innocent girls in order to get pics and videos of straight guys. WAY TOO MANY!

After they arrested Mr Kravitz they realized they did not have a common pedophile. They had a hard working young guy with a strong sense of curiosity to get to the bottom of this FAKE 14 year old girl that he KNEW wasnÂ’t a 14 year old girl. SO Sgt. Robert Minca and the rest of his LINCH mob began to weave a web of lies and false truths in order to make his case look Just.
I have dealt with these ENTRAPPERS before online I would get random Instant messages in chat rooms or from posts. I know how it works they respond to you as a normal type of girl with a healthy strong appetite for sex and after they got you hooked and interested they blurt out that they are under age. This is usually after hours or days of chatting about sex, dating, meeting up, fun things ect.

While I must agree anyone who would do such a deed to a child is a monster of the greatest degree, I must ask you why would you take this fight to his mother in such harsh words? You cannot expect any less from a mother, regardless of what her son is and what he does.

You speak of her “major thought” as if it were so easy to follow a train of them, with reason, in such a situation of turmoil when her son has been accused of one of the worst crimes there is to commit. Your tone treats her with such regard as if she was an accomplice to these actions.

Surely your own mother has defended you and has not second guessed you when someone has accused you of something bad? I know mine has. While yes, never to this degree.. its the same principal. A mother will always see her son as can-do-no-wrong.

Her life is as ruined as her son’s is for the simple reason her son has done something unforgivable, there is no reason to rub it in any harder.

I certainly didn’t mean to come off as harsh, especially since I just didn’t feel anything harsh against anyone. I just wanted to bring home the point about how some people choose to use their time. These types of things really don’t take very long, but that same time applied to something good or charitable might be able to help lots of people.

It’s just a matter of perspective. I was merely trying to suggest how easy it is for us to lose perspective. When it’s easiest for us to see only the good side of things, others might be suffering because of that. Today’s society encourages life with eyes wide open.

All mothers have to protect their children, especially when they are young, innocent, and vulnerable. One mother has to spend hours teaching her underage child about what to avoid on the internet, the other has to spend a few getting to know more about her child – to the point of tough love or gentle intervention (so many options out there) – so that another person’s child won’t be harmed. This is not a blame-the-mother festival, just a let’s see more of the truth about our loved ones and address it appropriately.

Parents can’t be expected to live in a “I see my child as perfect, because he or she has such-and-such good habits”-vacuum, where no one else in society matters.

It’s not exactly a rough criticism, just an observation that I and many others have made when looking towards society’s goodwill. Speaking of rough or harsh, I prefer not to use words like “monster” to describe even the saddest perpetrator. How some people come to perform serious crimes is something science seeks out explanations for endless days.

It is the thing we do to try and improve life for all people, not for monsters. The nation’s correctional facilities are filled with people, not monsters, many have a chance to enter society in the future.

As for the comments about my mother — I wish you could have a chance to see the truth about that. She is my greatest (or worst, depending on the nature and veracity of the words she uses) critic, keeping me in check, putting others first, thinking of my needs almost last. If you don’t believe me, I’ll be glad to put you in touch with her.

“ONLINE CHAT” its not real its all fantasy land where gay men prey on straight guys pretending to be woman, where over weight girls can be thin sexy models, where nerdy unattractive geeks can be macho handsome men. When online chat 1st broke out with the AOL chat rooms and such I honestly use to sit back and read these convos in the chat room, I use to laugh so much at how people took online chat so seriously.
I guess everyone is different but there are many out there like me that think online chat is nothing but fantasy land. No one is REAL, no one is truthfull, its all games jokes pranks lies, people pretending to be who they are not.
I have been messed with online plenty of times and for my own amusement entertained conversations before for a laugh or two.

Well said Alicia and Ian. The person who wrote this article obviously isn’t familiar with “innocent until proven guilty”. That’s one, And Flaming his mother online because she doesn’t believe her son did something or she was soooooo distressed that she blurted out whatever came to mind. He is EXTREMELY busy, always working wether he was at the school the autobody shop where he works or doing favors for family. He’s a good man, but then they don’t tell you that while they rake him over the coals in the papers. It is not for you or I to decide if he’s guilty it is for a jury to decide so get off your soapbox before someone shoves it where a proctologist has to remove it….

I realize I am posting this comment several months after the incident, but nonethless…

I was shocked at the array of comments concerning this blog. First off, I whole-heartedly defend the comments made by our trusted blogger. I do not see Ray as “taking the fight to the mother” in any way, shape, or form. Whether this woman was a good or bad provider isn’t generally known. What Ray called into question was the mother’s defense of Alex. Mama Molester defended her son as being “too busy” to commit such horrible acts. This is a preposterous notion. The woman is clearly very naive. Maybe the Son of Sam left the house early in the morning and returned late at night. He was busy. Jeffrey Dahmer was busy, as well. Since when is Busy equated with Good. I’m pretty sure burying bodies in the backyard is hard work. It was the nonsensical defense of a child molester that was questioned. Perhaps a more appropriate defense would be to list all the good things that her son had done, if there indeed was such a list. That was Ray’s point. And although this isn’t known to be the case here, it is worth noting that many child molesters have unnatural relationships with their mother.

As far as the act itself goes, I think no punishment is too strong for anybody that hurts a child. I think all the molestors should be drop-shipped onto a small island we’ll call a Penis Colony. That way, they could all enjoy each other’s company while rethinking their life’s path.

Oh, and defending him by crying entrapment is ridiculous. Somebody sick enough to do the things Alex is accused of should be taken off the streets at all costs. How could somebody oppose that? A teacher should be a trusted pillar of society and not somebody that preys on children.

As far as internet chat being fantasy, let’s not forget that children don’t know the difference between reality and fantasy in this context. Kids can be duped by mischievious characters quite easily.
