Lisanne Anderson, whose flickr page catalogs change and development in Sheepshead Bay, shot this photo of the oldest existing church in the area, built in 1869.

She writes:

I can’t help but love the architecture. They remodeled it in 1925 without ruining its charm. And since most of the buildings east of the church are two or three story late 19th century structures there’s a lot of visible sky.

Recently they did some reconstruction which brought back much of the beauty of the 1925 remodeling. Considering that a few years later the New York Conference was considering closing the church they have made an amazing comeback.

Okay, this picture was def taken from the old ShopRite parking lot. I remember that church very well although the paint and color scheme are definitely newer. I recall it being more of a two-tone faded mauve which was more subtle than this look. I honestly had no idea the church was that old though.

It’s called HDR, or High Dynamic Range imaging. It’s a way of tone mapping images to reflect light and color values more intensely.

When I first saw this I thought it was a painting. It’s a great photo.

HDR can look paintlike but it can also make phots look more realistic. Cameras catch a wider range of natural light colors than usually appears in a processed photo, whether it is digital or analog. Used conservatively, the photo looks like what we see through our eyes,

I was about seven when we lived in the veteran housing at Manhattan beach around 1947 the barrack we were housed in went up in flames and we were all left homeless. I believe the address was John Barry Blvd. I also remember playing in the halfshell when it was no longer in use. Would love to see some photos or learn more of the events.
