Brighton Beach Blog Begins!

Sorry, I love alliteration. Anyway, Brighton Beach finally has its own blog, titled Little Rus, which will feature news, reviews and events in the Brighton Beach area. It appears geared towards Russian-Americans and introducing others to the many quirks of the Russian culture.

From the blog’s description:

Rus’: referencing the first Russian state established in the late 9th century. Brighton Beach and the surrounding areas of Brooklyn have long been associated with Russian culture, thus Little Rus’ is an attempt to document the intricacies of the diverse neighborhood. The site will provide a resource for visitors and an outlet for residents to bring forth these cultural attributes.

I, for one, am happy to see blogs spreading to the Southern Brooklyn neighborhoods, an area long ignored by media, new and old.

Courier-Life (yournabe.com) has been based in South Brooklyn for about 30 years. This chain of newspapers was bought out by NewsCorp over 2 years ago. So it’s not as if they are ignored by media it’s more no one cares for the neighborhoods outside of people who live and work there.

The current state of affairs in NYC, from an socioeconomic perspective, will push these neighborhoods out into the forefront as they will once again emerge as vibrant economic engines of the city. We, the people of the warm shores of Brighton and it’s periphery give NYC some of it’s spice. While, as the previous commentator noted, nobody cares, the people who live in the neighborhood are bolivious to the attitudes of the rest of NYC . However, we want to attract new money to the economy of our neighborhood and that neans putting our best face forward and tollerating outsiders.
