According to Community Board 15 chairperson Theresa Scavo, Verizon will begin installing large poles – similar to telephone poles – in front of homes in order to deliver is FiOS fiber-optic service to the area. Scavo notes that once the pole is in the ground they will not be moved. If you see Verizon workers preparing to work in front of your home, and you are not happy with the potential placement of the pole, Scavo advises calling the board immediately – before work begins – at (718) 332-3008.

The streets the company will deploy to are:

  • Ave. V from Bragg to Ocean
  • Bragg from Ave. X to Ave. T

Woo Hoo! Finally some Competition for the Cable Company around here.. Although it might be a case of too little too late. Watch thier 1 year price lock but 2 YEAR contract..

Some competition would be nice. Cablevision stinks – although there is no guarantee that this is going to be any better.

I’m hoping the fios internet service is faster than the current verizon DSL – which is faster than dial up but still pretty slow when you compare it to other services out there.

I’m also hoping that the construction for the poles will be fast and at a minimum of noise. I live on nostrand avenue and they are always doing construction on the block making tons of noise at odd hours.

Oh and a round of applause for sheepsheadbites – glad to see a page focused on the community I find myself living in. Keep up the good work.

    OPTIMUM OWNS, FIOS BLOWS.
Firstly Verizon is the most evil teleco i have ever encountered that only spews BS lies and thrives on ppl being ignorant/uninformed. They make ppl think that just because fiber is in the house that means its better == BS. Modern cable infrastructure is mostly fiber, they only use coax from the pole/switchbox to ur house, that saves them and u money on running fiber into the premises which wouldnt add any benefits to the enduser or the cable company. Modern embedded signal processors are now fast enough to transmit data over copper as fast as most fiber implementations. The only advantage fiber has in this situation is that the cable can be longer without needing a repeater to boost the signal(less attenuation). which in the case of cable infrastructure is usually meaningless. So wats left, speed, price, and stability of the service. Since both infrastructures are mostly fiber, the stability is the same, and the speed/price are much much better from optimum. Verizon loves raping their customers. Both TV services offer the same quality HD service so that claim vz makes thats its the best quality, is yet again another lie. So in comparison of FIOS and OOL, only a retard picks FIOS if OOL is an available option.
I also wanna mention how badely their wireless services are. They use oldschool cdma2000 technology, that in no way is able compete with the speed, quality, and availablity of gsm/umts/hsdpa. For some reason ppl think verizon has the best service, and I think that is due to BS advertisements, and retards trying to justify their expensive crappy phones/service. Also the phones they use are exclusive to them(totalcrap) or are manufacturer modified gsm phones made to work with cdma which are released months after the gsm versions hit the market. The latter are made poorly made cuz they use crappy cdma chips that are bigger and use more power which stresses the original(gsm) design of those phones resulting in inferior overall quality compared to their gsm counterparts.
P.S. the security on the VZWireless network is a joke, a 10yr old with some skills can evesdrop on and/or hijack any phonecalls u make.
P.P.S evesdropping/hijacking is also possible on gsm but is harder to achieve. Shh ;)

Dude are you on crack?? first fios doesn’t blow vs ool in no shape or form, due to ool over-pack nodes you pay for speeds you never get, perfect example i pay for ool boost and get a whopping 5 down and 2 up!! ool is a joke not a service and has been for years, and the only reason we all stay with them is because at the moment for most of us its the best option.. as for the wires i’m not going to argue in the sense of capability because i don’t really have the specs in front of me but its not just the wire its the service its connected to and ool by far isn’t a service to write home about in fact if we’re gonna start calling out liars i would quicker point to ool then vz.. further more if you think any GSM service we have is better then VZ’s CDMA service my friend you need to check yourself into a mental clinic.. i have friends with AT&T and T-mobile as well as all the other brands such as virgin mobile and boost mobile and sprint and even the new crap metro-pcs.. and verizon has better reception then all of them esp the GSM services. My girlfriend has AT&T and every freaking iphone to ever hit the market and sure the phone is a good toy but it fails to do its main job make calls.. she gets dropped calls ever conversation at least once or twice i have the problem plagued blackberry storm 1 for vz and haven’t had a dropped call yet in over a year of owning it and i have gone into area’s such as woods camping were no one had service out of my friends and i did, in fact its almost a pleasure to watch my friends with their service talk crap until we take some sort of trip to lets say parts of brooklyn, or nj or li or even upstate or pa and then they come begging with their iphone or g1 in hand to make a call from my so called crappy cdma phone.. get real joker do your research and stop sucking apple and vz’s jock you tool!!

While competition is good for business and great for the consumer, I think people may have been forgetting about other options. For instance, DISH Network. Now I work for DISH so I realize, of course, that I could be considered biased. But nevertheless DISH has some great advantages over the competition. Like: lower overall prices, more HD channels than anyone else in the industry and great programs like HD free for life to save even more money. Add in awesome alternative ways to view your programming, such as: dishonline.com and TV everywhere and DISH really pulls ahead in my opinion. And where bundling all your communication/ entertainment services together, seems like an advantage at first look it has the downside that if you have an outage ALL your services go out. When they come from separate sources if you have a problem with one, at least you can still enjoy the others while it gets fixed.
